RE: Rah Rogh!!! Dicks bout to get sued
By the letter of the law, this has to be unlawful age discrimination.

A public business refusing to do business with someone solely due to their age.

No different that if one of those Teen clothing stores in the mall refused to sell clothes to women over the age of 40

There are other bakers in town who will take the business.

Someone raised that question late in the other thread. Don't see how Dick's doesn't lose without a state law protecting them.

I've always known American business succeeds in spite of top management, but the latest crop seems REALLY stupid. They do have lawyers.

The plantiff chooses the court. I have a hard time believing they filed the case in a liberal courtroom. If there is just one conservative judge in the entire state, I guarantee thats the courtroom where that case got filed.

They may well have wanted a liberal courtroom. If they lose, it gets appealed and gets precedence over more than just Oregon. There is no way Dick's wins this at the Supreme Court.

There are plenty of stores willing to sell him the rifle. This is stupid as a wedding cake. I'm all for this guy's right to own a weapon, but this should go nowhere.

I agree in principle, but the People's Republic of Oregon passed a law against age discrimination and these arbitrary rules are discriminatory in nature against adults aged 18-20. The law is the law.

Exactly. You can't have it both ways. If you want to keep the guns out of their hands, you have to keep the vote out of their hands too.

if they feel so strongly about it, that's XACLY! what they should do.....

just don't sell them.....

like a drug dealer, there's always another chemist in the wait....

oh shite, they're a public company that has to answer to shareholders......

#oops
Too late for this case

yes it is....

this one is cut and dry....

my overall point was how much does gun sales contribute to their bottom line....my guess would be enough to move the stock downward if they removed that option as part of their inventory/sales strategy....

RE: Rah Rogh!!! Dicks bout to get sued
I think the simplest solution is to have the Oregon legislature raise the purchase age for a firearm to 21. Heck, while they're at it, why not just raise the possession age for firearms to 21. Allow an exception for long arms (limited capacity long arms only) used in hunting, but those must be in the custody of an adult over 21 while hunting isn't going on. And the person carrying the gun must hold a valid hunting license and it must be during the appropriate hunting season. Or at a supervised marksmanship venue.

If Oregon can restrict alcohol to persons over 21, they can probably restrict gun sales too.

Either, way, if the current policy of Dicks is illegal in Oregon, then the solution is a pretty easy one. Change the law.

That would prevent future lawsuits but it's not going to save them from losing this one.

Yea, yea, yea. Its is clearly established that the regulation of firearms possession, including bans, is constitutional.

Its not clearly established that age discrimination is.

In any event, they would need data to back up the reasons for it.

21 year old age laws will be challenged and its not clear how the Supreme Court will rule. But in this case it is. Dick's loses. If their CEO has a brain, he will drop the restriction.

Oh Dicks will comply with the law.

My guess is that they just don't sell guns in Oregon.

Didn't the mass murderer buy his gun from Dicks? I think that's part of the reason the store is so strong in its changed policy.

They'll soon be facing lawsuits in every state that has an age discrimination law.

And they can add the lost revenue of firearms sales in those states to what they'll be paying out to the plantiffs in each of those cases.

Just like Delta this virtue signalling is going to effect their bottom line and I love every minute of it.
