Don't discount Putin providing "proof" at some point.

Putin doesn't care about Hillary, or Trump, or Bob Dole. He cares about spreading chaos in the US political system.

He might very well arrange for "proof"...get an impeachment going...and then arrange for "proof" that the "proof" was fake.

End game, discredit the whole system. Trump, Republicans, Democrats, the press, the FBI, everyone.
