WAC Conference Attendance Results - On the Rise!
The WAC is slowly increasing attendance numbers but still lags behind the days when Utah State, Nevada, Hawaii, Fresno State, etc, were in the WAC. Below are the total attendance numbers for the last 10 years (per game averages & conference only).

3104 (2017-18) - Current WAC (8 teams)
3003 (2016-17) - Current WAC
2778 (2015-16) - Current WAC
2686 (2014-15) - Current WAC
2422 (2013-14) – 9 teams (all current WAC + Idaho)
3109 (2012-13) – 10 teams (only NMSU & SU from current WAC)
5409 (2011-12) – 8 teams (only NMSU from current WAC)
5057 (2010-11) – 9 teams (only NMSU from current WAC)
5195 (2009-10) – 9 teams (only NMSU from current WAC)
5578 (2008-09) – 9 teams (only NMSU from current WAC)

Currently GCU (7210), NMSU (6255), and Utah Valley (3907) lead the WAC in attendance with CSU (390), UTRGV (1093), and UMKC (1235) the lowest in attendance.
Next year should be even better with UTRGV's new arena and Cal Baptist joining the WAC (they are averaging around 4,000/game).

This is great news. However, I have watched a few UVU games at home and unless all 3907 fans are on the opposite side of the camera, there is no way that number is near accurate. I know, I know, tickets sold... but why are thousands of fans buying tickets not going to games lol.

It looks like you are using strictly attendance numbers from the WAC games only. Overall, GCU, NMSU, UVU, and CSUB are trending up in attendance. Surprisingly, Seattle's attendance dropped despite the improved product Hayford has manufactured. Currently, UTRGV is struggling with their attendance. Hill has yet to inspire Vaqueros with his coaching ability. We will see what effects the use of the new D-League arena will play for UTRGV next season. With Kareem Robinson as coach, UMKC's attendance numbers have steadily dropped. This could be attributed to his lack of success in the WAC... or maybe just being in the WAC (instead of the Summit)? Cal Baptist might be a question mark for awhile. They have had a few 4000-plus attendance games this season but currently, they are only averaging 2,290 per game. I expect their attendance to improve once they move up to D1 but right now their attendance numbers are actually below the conference average (2,975). Not to be negative but it is really only a few schools driving up the WAC attendance numbers. The rest are still lagging.

The new arena is for Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the G League. I know UTRGV will play some of there games there.

Based on last season rankings, Cal Baptist would be ranked 5th in the country at the D2 level for attendance at 2,290 per game. They had a bad week of attendance for their two home games the week of Thanksgiving, where they drew 1,124 fans for a game against Western New Mexico and 884 fans for a game against Missouri S&T. School was out that week.

You need to understand what they are up against in Riverside. UCR drew 4,414 fans for eight home games against Big West opponents. CBU drew 4,414 for their game against Azusa Pacific. They are going to take off once they start playing a D1 schedule. These guys are really selling their school:

https://www.pe.com/2017/12/11/alexander-...r-handily/

I would think 3,000-4,000 per game would be realistic for CBU home attendance. As for UTRGV, playing in a larger, new arena should help. Seattle averaged 4,614 in 2011, so they are capable of better attendance.

RE: WAC Conference Attendance Results - On the Rise!
Our attendance should increase just because it's a lot easier to get to the arena, it's more visible and it's in the half way point to our neighboring cities. But we're probably not gonna break 2k unless we start winning more.

I wouldn't sweat Cal Baptist's attendance numbers too much at this point. GCU only averaged about 2300 in the two final DII seasons. That number jumped to 4373 in 2013-14, and rose 600-1000 per year after (to capacity). Not the same situation, but I'd be shocked if they weren't operating from a plan to build attendance while transitioning.

I have no doubt once CBU reestablishes a rivalry with GCU and starts one with Cal State Bakersfield (even though short lived) their attendance numbers will rise accordingly. However, at the moment, it's a little disappointing with having a brand spanking new arena and sporting a 25-4 record (at the time) that they could only muster 1,921 fans for their PacWest Championship game with Dixie State.

Seattle averaged 1,880 in conference games only and 1,390 overall. Not that great for a program that showed marked improvement from the prior coaching tenure.

Don't know what their situation was, but many conferences do not allow students to attend conference tourney games without paying full fare. Also, season ticket holders have to buy separate tickets. That tends to depress tourney attendance,.

We might want to keep that in mind.

Here is CBU's home attendance this season..

Cal State Dominguez Hills - 4982
Cal State Los Angeles - 2797
Colorado Christian - 2619
UC San Diego - 2989
Western New Mexico - 1124
Missouri S&T - 884
Saint Martin's - 1058
Point Loma - 2872
Dixie State - 1662
Simpson - 1088
Dominican - 1318
Azuza Pacific - 4414
Hawaii Pacific - 1601
Concordia - 2377
Notre Dame De Namur - 2579
Academy of Art - 1559
Biola - 4680
Hawaii Hilo - 1059
Chaminade - 2558
Azuza Pacific - 1959 (PacWest Tourney)
Dixie State - 1921 (PacWest Tourney)

Their attendance was all over the place. So it is hard to figure out what is their dependable hardcore fans base and what game attendance was assisted by the opposing team's travel fan base.

As I have said, I suspect once they start their venture into D1 ball the fans base will respond accordingly. This is somewhat a dead end season in the PacWest; as they rev up for the WAC next season.

Every team has, at least, a slight bump in WAC play compared to total....except CSU. Maybe neutral-court game(s) skewed the figure?

Sitting on a toilet somewhere and interacting with you.

While true, I will also point out that our Pack the Pan Am really propped up our numbers substantially. We would be under 5000 for the year and under 6000 in WAC games if not for that promo.

I'm glad Moccia has NMSU's attendance numbers going in a positive direction. But admittedly it's being artificially driven up by the Pack the PAC promotions. If NMSU's attendance numbers was around 5,300 per game naturally, I would be much more comfortable with Aggie fans interest. Ideally, I would prefer seeing NMSU have a hardcore Aggie fans base of over 5K with our two rivalry games filled to near capacity to drive up the attendance average even further by another 750-1000 seats per game. Then I would feel NMSU's fan interest is solidly moving in the right direction. But until that occurs, Moccia needs the Pack the PAC to hopefully drum up new fan interest.

Don't know what their situation was, but many conferences do not allow students to attend conference tourney games without paying full fare. Also, season ticket holders have to buy separate tickets. That tends to depress tourney attendance,.

We might want to keep that in mind.

Here is CBU's home attendance this season..

Cal State Dominguez Hills - 4982
Cal State Los Angeles - 2797
Colorado Christian - 2619
UC San Diego - 2989
Western New Mexico - 1124
Missouri S&T - 884
Saint Martin's - 1058
Point Loma - 2872
Dixie State - 1662
Simpson - 1088
Dominican - 1318
Azuza Pacific - 4414
Hawaii Pacific - 1601
Concordia - 2377
Notre Dame De Namur - 2579
Academy of Art - 1559
Biola - 4680
Hawaii Hilo - 1059
Chaminade - 2558
Azuza Pacific - 1959 (PacWest Tourney)
Dixie State - 1921 (PacWest Tourney)

Their attendance was all over the place. So it is hard to figure out what is their dependable hardcore fans base and what game attendance was assisted by the opposing team's travel fan base.

As I have said, I suspect once they start their venture into D1 ball the fans base will respond accordingly. This is somewhat a dead end season in the PacWest; as they rev up for the WAC next season.

Looking at the D2 attendance list below, they have done well this season in attendance:

2017 DIVISION II BASKETBALL ATTENDANCE TEAM LEADERS
Rank Division II G/S Attendance Avg. Rank Division II G/S Attendance Avg.
1. Northern St. 14 49,728 3,552
2. Augustana (SD) 15 39,915 2,661
3. Dixie St. 12 31,925 2,660
4. Fort Hays St. 15 38,363 2,557
5. Southwest Minn. St. 12 24,401 2,033
6. Washburn 15 29,478 1,965
7. Neb.-Kearney 15 28,835 1,922
8. Central Mo. 13 24,070 1,851
9. Bellarmine 16 27,543 1,721
10. Ala.-Huntsville 16 26,168 [1,635

Their average of 2,290 per game looks good compared to the other D2 schools. That is up from 791 per game in their old gym last season. They draw well for Southern California schools, but not for schools like Simpson University.

Their average attendance at the D2 level this season is better than every Big West school with the exception of Hawaii and Long Beach State, based on 2017 Big West attendance numbers. Once they get to a D1 schedule, they should easily average 3,000 to 4,000 per game. CBU is bringing one of the top athletic programs at the D2 level and they are not going to be happy just being at the D1 level:

At the end of December, they were #2 in the D2 Learfield Director's Cup Standings behind Colorado Mines. The basketball team is having another good season. The baseball team is a D2 pitching factory. They have had at least one pitcher drafted in each of the last eight MLB Drafts. Very good addition to the WAC.

Quick question for Aggies fans. Why not have a Pack the Pan Am for every game? What is it that makes that game jump in numbers? Free tickets? The competition? More marketing?
Seems to me that whatever it is, you should do that for every game.

You look at that and two schools that are practically suburbs of Kansas City and have more attendance than UMKC. Fort hays is also not that much farther.
