Take the Big Ten Tournament back to Chicago...
Yeah, this is just like the Big East in its heyday...not.

Yet another example of our overly pretentious society, where people try to feel more important than they are. The Big Ten doesn't even have a team in New York and no, Rutgers doesn't count as anything New York except one night 12 years ago.

The center of minimum distance of B1G members is in Culver, IN ~100 miles southeast of Chicago. Bring it back to Chicago!

Or Indianpolis. The reasons for bringing it to New York, as I noted, are superficial, granted there is some level of financial incentive.

Or Indianapolis. Either way, not New York. 03-banghead

Clearly you guys don't read the ACC board. There are at least 6,000,000 posts by no less than 10 users touting NYC as the center of the basketball universe.

Even if it is, the B1G shouldn't be hosting its tournament there.

Eh, the Michigan/Michigan State game was sold out today.

Delany has a long game to play here. Can't blame him for trying.

But why? B1G/Big Nine/Western has always been a Midwestern conference with a focus on Chicago. As I mentioned previously even adding Rutgers and Maryland barely moves the needle on their Midwestern hold.

If it's about market-size (3rd biggest vs 1st) should SEC get rid of their rotation and just start holding their tournament in Houston every year?

BIG won't be holding it in New York every year. BIG doesn't care if SEC holds their tournament in Houston or not.

I was totally against New York too but I now seem to think it was a pretty good experience for the teams. Looks like it was good for all the alumni in New York too. Hell, I think I read there was over 13,000 people for the Thursday noon game.

With that being said, I prefer Indianapolis for basketball tournament and football championship and Omaha for baseball tournament.

They threw Maryland a bone last year by having it in Washington, Rutgers this year with New York City. One year to showcase it in NYC. It's not going to be an annual event so I don't see all the ruckus is. They are back to having it in Chicago and Indianapolis the next few years anyways.

Exactly. Doing this as a "one-off" is absolutely fine.

One assumes the BIG takes bid for tournament sites, though not a lot of cities would be in play. Perhaps NYC offered very good incentives and the amenities were hard to turn down.

Really it is about strategic rotating, and playing in NY offers top media and the exposure is not bad for conference recruitment, making a statement about footprint,.giving those most eastern schools a bit of convenience, etc.

Chicago or Indianapolis would make sense as a permanent host. But rotating has some good arguments.

I agree with everything except the media. The media would flock to the tournament if it was held in Buford, Wyoming (population 1).

I mean, the problem isn't so much playing a year in New York as it is playing a year in New York when the ACC already had Barclays (MSG isn't going to disrupt a good thing with the Big East) and thus having to move the tournament up a week. If you're the B1G you can always "buy" Barclays from the A10 for a year or two with a scheduling agreement and not disrupt your regular schedule. You just have to do it in a year another conference hasn't already done that.

Okay guy from Houston, tell us again how Rutgers isn't a NY team as they literally sit in the NYC TV market. A half hour drive from campus and you're in Manhattan. Keep those P6 dreams alive though.
