Majerle to coach the NBA Phoenix Suns?
There was a lengthy article in the Arizona Republic today by local sports writer Dan Bickley basically begging the owner of the Suns, Robert Sarver, to hire Dan Majerle as the next Suns head coach. There was even a headline on the main page of the paper titled, Majerle to coach the Suns?
The Suns job is perhaps the one and only job that might pull Majerle away from GCU since it allows him to stay in Phoenix. I guess we wait and see.

If he leaves, there are strong rumors that Sean Miller might be available. He's had some success at Arizona.

He already coached for the Suns as an Assoc. Head Coach. Would he really want to go back there in this day of age with more prima donna players?

There is also very little urgency when he knows the job will be available again in 3-5 years. The Suns have been down the nostalgia road with the HC position. Anyone wanna ask Hornaceck how that worked out for him?

Prestige, pay raise, not working with lazy college kids, working with elite players. That's just a few. They're are a lot more. Trust me. Btw, on a national level outside the purple bubble no one gives a crap about Grand Canyon and Majerle knows this.

There is really no comparison between Hornacek and Majerle - both in terms of popularity and coaching style.

True, one is a current NBA head coach on his 2nd team. One has never been an NBA head coach.

The pressure would potentially be greater on DM due to his greater popularity and the way he acted when he was passed over previously, quitting the team in the middle of a season.

If DM gets the call, he should probably take it. Will he? I don't know. He really loves Jerry and if you don't know the history of the Suns, you would not understand the relationship between JC and current Suns owner Sarver.

Either way, I am confident GCU would hire another coach, whether they average 20 wins a season as DM has, remains to be seen.

Dealing with a recent culture of deliberate tanking, no real control over your roster. That's also life in the NBA.

More than anything else, Jerry still loves the Suns. They are his baby, his passion for most of his adult life. Jerry also loves the Suns fans more than he dislikes Robert Sarver. Same with Thunder Dan.

Ultimately, if Jerry thought DM would succeed as the Suns' coach, he'd give his blessing without hesitation

RE: Majerle to coach the NBA Phoenix Suns?
The Suns are a mess. The are terrible defensively and they are young. They are going to get a couple of first round picks in this draft and they have Devin Booker and Josh Jackson. It is going to take a few seasons to rebuild this team and they need the right coach for a young group of players.

I know that people in Phoenix will want Majerle to coach the Suns, but I think he has unfinished business at GCU. He has the resources and the facilities to build a really strong program at GCU over the next few years. He will struggle for the first couple of years at Phoenix. The team is just too young and not attractive to free agents.

If the Suns want to look at the college level for a Head Coach, they might want to give Kevin Ollie at UConn a call. He may be ready to move on and he is well respected in the NBA. He might be the right guy for a young group of NBA players.

Does JC love the suns, of course. He's married to GCU and the Sixers right now. I don't think he has any interest in having a relationship with sarver and I sarver seems to feel the same way. I don't doubt that he would give DM his blessing. I have also hear JC proclaim that DM is a different kind of guy and not one to jump at the money or a flashy job. Whatever DM decides is fine. I have confidence that GCU will hire someone capable of moving the plan forward.
