Rhoades was good at closing because he had Marcus and Egor. All-conference players really help hide some of the warts.

Lack of scoring at the end of games is the main problem...could be the lack of Evans and Egor04-chairshot We lost 84% of the scoring from last year. Still we seem to tighten up at some the end. Two more buckets in the final 5 minutes would have resulted in several more wins.
As I have said several times this season, Pera seems determined to have the players adjust to the system instead of adjusting the system to suit the talent he has. Obviously it hasn't worked. With a lot more talent it MIGHT cover up the coaching flaws but it illustrates a problem and matches the definition of insanity..............expecting a different result

What system do you think would fit our talent? I’m curious since everyone seems to think we should be winning all these games with a completely new team. Rice fans seem to think no other team is trying to win.

The attention has to be focused on keeping guys like Najja, Malik, and Miles. Najja and Malik have the potential to be legitimately great, but neither had conventional recruiting processes which means both are probably vulnerable to transfer. If we can keep both with the class we have coming in, I think we'll see some good progress next year. But it's a big if.

Navy seal camp.
I didn’t see whether Pera held one this year.
When I saw Rhoades do that, my first thought was that we’d get stronger as games wore on (not weaker). And we did.
80% or more of the late game mental mistakes we’ve seen this year are fixed if we were better conditioned. Bring back Seal Camp

That was just a glorified PR stunt.

I don’t think he did it except for year 1.

But a good one. If done right, lots of useful lessons.

I commented a week or two ago that I wasn't impressed with our conditioning (specifically I see Cashaw fatiguing in games a bit quicker than you might expect). Navy Seal Camp or not, I think our S&C guy under Rhoades was a bit more effective than our current guy.

Connor was hurt towards the end of the game and played through it. I agree we haven’t been able to finish games though.

Less system IMO and more more adjustment. We seem to have 1 game plan and we do that no matter whether we are up, down, blowing out or being blown out.

We commit some truly idiotic fouls while holding a lead. We jack shots when holding a lead instead of holding the ball.

It reminds me of someone I went to college with. She was the world's most consistent driver - would go 40 mph everywhere. Perfect for Allen parkway but she would drive 40 on the Westpark Tollway and in the Rice village. The latter two were suicidal.

Leadership, leadership, leadership. There is no "go to" player to close out these games. No one has been able to step and close out the opposition. Connor is a nice complementary player but not someone who has been able to step up and "will" the team to victory. Ako is trying to step up but he has been for the most part (with the exception of the FAU away game) unsuccessful. Only 2 games to go in the season. It has been a long year. I will be there to cheer on the team Thursday and Saturday but I am sad they will not go to the tournament. I think they are officially eliminated but I could be wrong.

You are wrong. Two Rice home wins & UTEP loss at UNT and we’re heading to Frisco.

(You might be right on the first point though.)

I am hoping for the best, then. Winning the last 2 games would be a good boost for the players and give them some confidence going into the tournament.
