I actually like Socon John, he isn't as biased as this board makes him out to be. If I recall correctly he picked ETSU to beat Furman both times. He also just recently said he thought Bradford should be POY and Hodges freshman of the year. I think his articles on Midmajor maddness are good for Socon basketball.

Yeah he is a good guy. He is definitely biased some for Furman but if we had someone from JC doing what he does I would hope they would do the same for ETSU.

Having said that, I did have a lot of fun at the CIT the first year we played in it.
While it would not be my preferred outcome, I would not be 100% opposed to the CIT, if only because we've played there twice before in recent years, so that particular tournament would not be a new experience.
I would not accept or be willing to take a bid to the CBI or any other tournament.
While the NIT auto bid is obviously off the table, realistically, what would our chances be, if we managed to esssntially repeat 2016, make it to the championship game but loose, presumably to UNCG. I know in 2016 the team finished 2nd in the conference with a 21-10 overall record, the championship loss to UTC pushing to 11 losses. Hypothetically, would a 25-9 team have any more appeal then a 23-11 team?
Zero...UNCG had an auto bid last year and was an 8 seed.

Figures.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aside from current ETSU administration not being as much into stuff like the CIT or CBI as the previous leadership, isn't part of the issue also due to not having the option to use Freedom Hall after the end of the regular season? I seem to recall that being mentioned back in 2016. Had they taken a CIT bid in 2016, to my understanding, they would have probably qualified for at least one game at home on paper, but Freedom Hall was booked or something.
Personally, this year at least I really wouldn't care about the CIT, but the lack of post season availability for Freedom Hall is somewhat annoying. At some future point it might be somewhat more beneficial to pursue a bid to a smaller tournament. There is of course also the hypothetical possibility of home games during the first 3 rounds of the NIT. Then of course you have or had situations like the A-Sun Tournament that rotated between the different schools. If at some point in the future the SoCon tires of Asheville, this could be a missed opportunity for ETSU if the university lacks the ability to host.
