District Will Suspend Kids Who Leave to Protest
Quote:We Are Here to Learn, 'Not a Political Protest'

In response to the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, students across the country have decided to walk out of classes in protest of not having more gun control laws.

With the protest tactic gaining popularity in recent days, one school district in Texas is making sure its students know that if they plan on walking out of class, they will face the consequences.

“We are here for an education and not a political protest,” Needville ISD Superintendent Curtis Rhodes said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

According to CBSDFW, Rhodes added it doesn't matter how students walk out — those who do will be suspended:

Please be advised that the Needville ISD will not allow a student demonstration during school hours for any type of protest or awareness!! Should students choose to do so, they will be suspended from school for 3 days and face all the consequences that come along with an out of school suspension. Life is all about choices and every choice has a consequence whether it be positive or negative. We will discipline no matter if it is one, fifty, or five hundred students involved. All will be suspended for 3 days and parent notes will not alleviate the discipline.

“A school is a place to learn and grow educationally, emotionally and morally.” he continued. "A disruption of the school will not be tolerated.

“Respect yourself, your fellow students and the Needville Independent School District and please understand that we are here for an education and not a political protest,” Rhodes concluded.

I'm sure most of them would be happy to miss 3 days. The only question is what the parents would say about it.

Many students walked out toi protest in all 50 states. These kids are future voters, and could run for office. They are not afraid of the NRA, and the NRA leader is on the losing end on this one.

Getting kids to walk out of school to protest! wow those must be some strongly held beliefs, I mean to get a kid to skip out of school.

The NRA is not going anywhere, and their power is *NOT* derived from buying politicians (that would be state unions). The NRA's power is in it's massive membership and their belief in upholding a constitutional right.

Yeah, and a fair number of them eat Tide Pods to the point that legislators want to pass laws protecting the idiots.

So this time - we should worry about what they think??

Moral of story - high school kids do stupid stuff.........

About 1,000 Minneapolis kids walked out in protest and 80% of the newsreel footage showed exactly what you'd think a protest of high school kids entail: a bunch of goofballs happy to have an excuse to play hooky from school. 03-lmfao

Most of these kids will probably not vote. There is a laughably low probabability that any will run for office. And the reason they are not afraid of the NRA is because the NRA is a bunch of guys in suits lobbying the government, not mentally ill spree shooters or drug dealer bustin' caps.

Perhaps there is good in Jury Duty. The way it works in El Paso is that they get the names from Voter Registration. You don't vote you aren't called to Jury Duty. This is one of those things that is a plus and a minus at the same time. We should let our Snowflakes of this country know what it entails when you register to vote. 03-wink
