Hofstra @ JMU Hoops
The Dukes are trying to scratch their way out of the Keener round, but Hofstra has something to play for too. They are the #3 seed if they don't slip up here in the last week and that means avoiding the tourney home team CoC until the finals.
The last meeting between JMU and Hofstra was a nightmare finish with JMU inexplicably allowing Hofstra to shoot and make a 3pt shot to tie the game with 1 second. Please don't make us live through that again.
The goal is no different this time around. JFW will shoot his team out of the game if you coax him into it. He is going to launch 20+ shots whether they are good shots or not. If the Dukes stick with the zone trap that has been employed for 6 or 7 straight games, they will need to be keenly aware of JFW's location when he is off the ball. Keep some extra attention on him and the shooting results will go way down.
Also, Gustys hasn't changed his spots in 4 years. He is a bull in a china shop and will get double digit rebounds, but it is important that those don't turn into easy garbage buckets. The Dukes need to foul him early, often, and with authority. Gustys is shooting a scorching hot 37% from the FT line this year which amazingly is 9% HIGHER than last year. He sucks at basketball. JMU can leverage hard fouls from the goon squad into empty possessions for Hofstra.
Antanee Pinkard comes off the bench and out of academic purgatory proceeding to drain 2 huge shots with the shot clock winding down. PA announcer Jack Cavanaugh mistakenly calls him Anfernee both times.

We need this win - no we don't need to foul, we need Gusty to foul us and foul out. We are hot from the FT line.

Are academic issues the reason we haven't seen Pinkard in a box score since Jan. 7?

Dukes open as 1.5 pt underdogs. The streak of the underdogs beating the spread in JMU games is now up to 11. I'll be wagering on that streak to continue Thursday night.

My bold prediction is the Dukes win the next three and enter the tourney on a four game winning streak.

O/U currently for tonight's game = 150.5.
Other CAA games tonight...
Elon +11.5 at Charleston
Delaware +4 at Drexel
Towson +5 at Northeastern
UNCW +7.5 at W&M
If the Good Guys can get the W tonight and the favored teams prevail, we will be sitting in a 6th place tie with Elon in the standings and have the tie-breaker over Elon for the time being (read: out of the Keener Invitational). If the Dukes win out, we are likely going to be the 5-seed and facing W&M in the quarterfinals. Let's get this first one tonight, Dukes! Start of 3 games in 5 days.

I agree and could very well escape the play in game. Wahoo!

In our OT loss at their place back in early January, Gustys went 0 for 5 in his first 5 FT attempts. But, wouldn't you know it, he went 2 for 2 at a critical juncture of the game as the Dukes were previously up by 3 with 1:52 left in the game. Figures considering how things have gone for us much of the season.
Speaking of Gustys, he reminds me of Kelly Tripucka back in the 70's who I am pretty certain played at least 7 seasons for Notre Dame. I believe Gustys has suited up for Hofstra for at least 9 years and he is actually 34 years old. Gustys should try football. Too bad Hofstra dropped FB back in '09. Maybe the NFL will give him a look.

This game is going into the L column. I hate the whole senior night thing. Nice to pay respects but totally disrupts the lineup.

Back down to earth tonight.
Can’t make a shot and look absolutely terrible.
Probably because I’m watching. Whenever I have this year, we’ve stunk it up.
Signing off. Maybe I’ll check back later.

I don’t understand why you’re expected to start or play seniors more on senior night in basketball. Never see that in football.
