RE: Tripp Weaver
Where'd he go? With Weaver leaving, there's now one more turned over coach compared to last year.

Closer to home, but would think it has to be for more than a position coach.

NO kidding, if that is the case I think that would have to be a major upgrade to move to Western Carolina.

I've seen the chatter, but nothing official. His twitter account still shows affiliation with JMU. Nothing from WCU.

"Weaver will be the new defensive passing game coordinator and secondary coach for the Catamounts."

From Madia's Article.

Not being a band member nor musically inclined, looked and sounded sweet to me. I'd have never guessed they could put together that nice of a band. Shame on me.

Western Carolina's band is regularly top-5 in the country now that David Starnes is running that program. Jacksonville State is one of the other lesser-known schools with an amazing marching band.

This does not seem like a career upgrade to me. Strange move, but what do I know.

Previous relationship with the DC from his ECU days. Also is 60 miles away from his hometown. Probably just wanted to be closer to home.

Good luck to you Tripp and thanks for the work you put in!

Also note that Fontel Mines is taking over as recruiting coordinator. Knowing him and what he's done, I would not expect any sort of drop off there.

I am with you does not seem like a major upgrade career wise.....and most likely going to a school in Western Carolina where you are not going to win. When is the last time the Catamounts sniffed the playoffs.

Best of luck to Coach Weaver and hope it works out how he envisions it but I still find this a curious move.

Exactly. Coach Mines is on point and will do great in his expanded role as recruiting coordinator.

When is the last time the Catamounts sniffed the playoffs.

They were sniffing them last year, but choked down the stretch. Before that, it's been a long time. They did make the Natty Championship back in the early 80s.

To answer an early question along with this point, the last playoff appearance for WCU was that 1983 I-AA national championship game. It’s been 34 years and counting.

still seems like an odd career decision to me, to basically be a glorified defensive backs coach. Perhaps I am in the minority but I have never heard of a passing game defensive coordinator......particularly for a below average FCS school. He must have really wanted to move back close to home.

Yes, no question Coach Mines will excel in this role

RE: Tripp Weaver
Maybe Houston decided Weaver wasn’t meeting the grade? It is highly unusual for a young coach to move down unless they are encouraged to do so.
