WBB vs UNCW 2/18/18
The Lady Dukes are back at home tomorrow to face the Seahawks in the annual Pink Game. The Dukes are coming off a hard fought win on Friday versus Delaware which leaves them at 13-1 in conference.

Looking forward to a nice turnout tomorrow. Wife, younger daughter and I will be in our usual spot next to the tubas ROOTIN!!

RE: WBB vs UNCW 2/18/18
This team needs to get the NCAA tourney berth. As I watched today, their youthfulness showed in spurts but their talent flashes in spurts too. They need to get a year of getting to the real tournament and feeling it out as sophomores so they can make some runs as upperclassmen. This year will be all about experience for them and playing on the big stage. It’s gonna be tough having to win the tourney at Drexel but they’ve really made an impressive CAA run 14-1 after a brutal OOC schedule. Down the stretch, they’re gonna need some offensive consistency. Too much iso 1-on-1 to be successful against good teams and our shooting percentage isn’t great, but hopefully they can keep this momentum going!

RE: WBB vs UNCW 2/18/18
Interesting game to watch yesterday. For a lot of the first half the ladies seemed to be sleepwalking or not really trying too hard. I don't know whether scoring the first set of points gave them a sense of cakewalk, but UNCW kept chipping at the score, especially when #5 could not miss a 3-point shot. Luckily the Dukes woke up early in the second half (as I was confident they would) and put a hurt on UNCW and put the game out of reach. They can be so good.....and so frustrating to watch at the same time, which makes this team all the more exciting and fun to watch. I completely believe they will win out and get the #1 seed for the tournament.

UNCW brought a small but noisy contingent of fans. Glad they gave the noisemaker-carrying fan a warning and even more glad that person was smart enough to put the noisemaker away.

Saw Jackie Benitez and her crutches yesterday (hopefully the issue is resolved by the beginning of next season). It looks like Bre may have broken a nose - she was sporting the Jen Brown-hockey mask yesterday during warm-ups. Maybe a redshirt for her and Debra?

I love the Dukette for a Day promotion - those girls on the court looked like they were having so much fun and kudos for the Dukettes who taught them those cute routines in such a short amount of time. The little ones are by far my favorites....

I was disappointed that on a game being played for cancer awareness that they could not even recognize the survivors in the audience. I really miss the games when they have had had the survivors and current patients on the court - that always sends a very powerful message, especially when you see people you know and admire on the court.

Off to Drexel for the ladies on Friday - if you live in the area please go to the game and cheer for those of us who cannot make it.

RE: WBB vs UNCW 2/18/18
LTD - I felt like the pink out game was under-marketed. In all honesty, I sometimes feel like the breast cancer awareness pushes are overdone in sports - IE Month long pushes - but I did think it was neat seeing teams all over the country doing it for one game yesterday, and I felt like JMU called the game a pink-out, but that's it. Like you said, no recognition (in game... I don't know about madizone/radio), no full-team support by either UNCW or JMU when it came to apparel, socks, headbands, etc. other than some pink warmups. If you turned on the TV, there were some pretty nice uniform combos around NCAAW yesterday. I'm not advocating for pink uniforms - that's an expensive 1-game purchase, but I do feel like it was an under-seized opportunity. The team, band, cheer, and dance used to all sport some pink. I'll assume it was poorly coordinated because the band staff doesn't communicate with Athletics and the Dukettes don't have any a coach.

Bre has played in 10 games this season which I think, but I am not sure, would not allow her to redshirt this season. If I am incorrect perhaps someone can correct me.

As far as Debra since she already took a redshirt year when she transferred from UVa I do not think she would be eligible. Again the rules are very convoluted so I may be incorrect. Possibly a medical but again I am not up on the rules and whatever her status is injury related or not..

Go Dukes!!

Debra could get a *medical* redshirt possibly. Look at the NCAA website. The rules are not that difficult to understand. The question is, would she want to? Hopefully Jackie will be healed up by next year, depending on what her injury is. She look like a pretty fierce competitor a la Precious Hall, who rehabbed her knee very well and unusually quickly. I do wish Coach O would be a little more forthcoming about injuries. That drives me nuts!

Karen Barefoot, the UNCW coach, paid our defense a real compliment when she said they are "strong and take away your inside game". Real kudos to Tasia, Devon, and Kayla (4 blocks for her!) and their "block party". Also I noted that we switched to more zone D in the 3rd and 4th Q, which UNCW could not deal with at all. Now if we could just come up with some better perimeter D...everybody else's long-range bombers are killing us! And our long-range bombers are not that great most of the time. I loved Tori's 3 at the end of the game though.

RE: WBB vs UNCW 2/18/18
Wife and I have seen both games vs UNCW this year and we are both impressed with the energy and intensity that Karen and Tina have brought to the Seahawks. Given a couple of years I predict that they will become one of the better teams in the CAA not like the doormats they have been in the past. They will bear watching!!

O to P I also wish we had a bit more info on what the situation is with Jackie. As you noted she looks like a real competitor and player. Hope she is ready for the start of next season. Looking at the setup on here leg I would assume, and I am only guessing here, that she tore an ACL or MCL or something like that. The crutches and brace look like something fairly serious happened. Bummer.

I didn't know Tina Martin found a new job. It felt normal to see her just as grumpy yesterday on the visiting bench as it was for many years past.

Shortly after Tina was let go by Delaware she was hired by Karen at UNCW. I will admit I sorta miss the razzing the Pep Band would give her each time the Chickens came into the Convo!!

I love it! Although I have to admit I've got a little bit of a soft spot for ODU now that my old friend Nikki McCray-Penson is coaching there....and of course they're in C-USA. But I am keeping an eye on them.

"The '80's called and want their hair back."

And I do miss the rubber chicken that someone had spray painted blue and hung over the band railing....ahh the good old days!!

It was interesting to watch the dynamic between the two coaches before the game and as they worked with their players during the game. It was almost as if Tina was the head coach and Karen the assistant. This will be an interesting situation to watch over the next couple of years.
