Facebook VP Puts Media On Blast For Ignoring/Misrepresenting Facts Re: Ads
For the sake of being easy to read, I'll copy & paste it all into one quote, but I'll link to the entire thread at the bottom.

He accuses the media of ignoring relevant facts that he has provided (particularly that the majority of Facebook ads that the Russians bought were AFTER the election), because it doesn't align with the Trump/Russia collusion narrative.

Very excited to see the Mueller indictment today. We shared Russian ads with Congress, Mueller and the American people to help the public understand how the Russians abused our system. Still, there are keys facts about the Russian actions that are still not well understood.

Most of the coverage of Russian meddling involves their attempt to effect the outcome of the 2016 US election. I have seen all of the Russian ads and I can say very definitively that swaying the election was *NOT* the main goal.

The majority of the Russian ad spend happened AFTER the election. We shared that fact, but very few outlets have covered it because it doesn’t align with the main media narrative of Trump and the election.

The main goal of the Russian propaganda and misinformation effort is to divide America by using our institutions, like free speech and social media, against us. It has stoked fear and hatred amongst Americans. It is working incredibly well. We are quite divided as a nation.

The single best demonstration of Russia's true motives is the Houston anti-islamic protest. Americans were literally puppeted into the streets by trolls who organized both the sides of protest.

The Russian campaign is ongoing. Just last week saw news that Russian spies attempted to sell a fake video of Trump with a hooker to the NSA. US officials cut off the deal because they were wary of being entangled in a Russian plot to create discord.

here are easy ways to fight this. Disinformation is ineffective against a well educated citizenry. Finland, Sweden and Holland have all taught digital literacy and critical thinking about misinformation to great effect.

We are also taking aggressive steps to prevent this sort of meddling in the future by requiring verification of political advertisers and by making all ads on the platform visible to anyone who cares to examine them.

56% after/44% before according to Facebook

I have no doubts that their broader goal was to sow chaos and spread misinformation. I also don't doubt their preference for who should win was Trump.

Worth a bump. Many Democrats still refuse to realize they are doing exactly what Putin wants.

I guess I fall into the group that gives no *****.

I’m political enough but I have not paid any attention whatsoever to this Russia story. I couldn’t tell you who the players are and I’m not interested in reading about it or listening to any of it because it is all much ado about nothing.

I’ll be voting for Trump again in the next election and have zero concerns that I’m voting secretly for Putin.

RE: Facebook VP Puts Media On Blast For Ignoring/Misrepresenting Facts Re: Ads
All the Russians did was piggyback onto what both parties have been doing for many years with negative ads fomenting distrust, hate & fear. Russians just poured gas on the fire. Even so, I hope we're returning the favor in some way.

Most of the attacks on candidates were to damage them in case they won or as a bonus to cause their loss. I think they assumed Clinton would win so they sought to undermine her ability to lead when in office. Once she lost, to their surprise, they switched their focus to undermining Trump.

I thought one side was saying there was no collusion.

For those who realize Russia is a long-time enemy of the U.S. and its political freedom, we don't expect anything less.

McCarthy was ridiculed at the time, but today's love-affair with socialism among leftist celebrities and politicians makes one wonder if he wasn't on to something.

Some of us are shocked that Russia tried to intervene in our affairs.

Others of us realize that's what all nations do to each other.

If we were talking percentages I would give the Russians, 0.01 as the cause discord in the country. Completely false and very misleading stories from our media would be .500 of the cause and both the Democrats and Republicans a combine .400 and the uninformed the rest.

Considering all of these ads most likely did not reach .0000000000001 of the American people and 1 or 2 ads probably reached less than .00000001

Now compare that to the unproven/fake Steele Dossier and how the media has built tons of hit pieces off it. And then "unnamed sources" false leaks from the insiders. Those Russian troll would not have took place if not for our media and politicians.

As far as it happening..big deal, they used social media to fan flames we started. If that's the worse we are doing in almost every part of the world...

I'm 100% disappointed

There's probably 1000x more money and outside influence in this last election than what the Russians put into it. The reason I don't see it as a concern....

crap like this has took place for decades...in other forms.

The Russians set up protests on both sides. The media hypes it up constantly to make the country look like its about to explode.

They set up pro-Trump rallies and Never-Trump rallies. Pro-immigration and anti-immigration to make controversial hype stories our media can't resist.

The result is paralyzation of government.

You don't think its a problem. That is your right. I do.

RE: Facebook VP Puts Media On Blast For Ignoring/Misrepresenting Facts Re: Ads
Words of Warning to America
September 1975 • Volume 4, Number 9 • Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

Quote:Russian exile Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, in Washington, D.C., on June 30, delivered a dramatic warning to all the world – and to Americans in particular. The Nobel Prize winning author, in his first major public address since his expulsion from the Soviet Union in 1974, stripped bare the crimes and excesses of the Communist masters in his native land. And he denounced the West for a "senseless process of endless concessions to aggressors" in the Kremlin.

Following is an excerpt from this lengthy article:

Quote:I must say that Lenin foretold this whole process. Lenin, who spent most of his life in the West and not in Russia, who knew the West much better than Russia, always wrote and said that the western capitalists would do anything to strengthen the economy of the USSR. They will compete with each other to sell us goods cheaper and sell them quicker, so that the Soviets will buy from one rather than from the other. He said: They will bring it themselves without thinking about their future. And, in a difficult moment, at a party meeting in Moscow, he said: “Comrades, don’t panic, when things go very hard for us, we will give a rope to the bourgeoisie, and the bourgeoisie will hang itself.”

Then, Karl Radek, whom you may have heard of, who was a very resourceful wit, said: “Vladimir Ilyich, but where are we going to get enough rope to hang the whole bourgeoisie?”

Lenin effortlessly replied, “They’ll supply us with it.”

For anyone to buy into what a few Russians did, it took the perfect storm for it to have any affect. If not for the democrats feeding the Steele Dossier to the media...

the Russians most likely has nothing to troll on

I'm going to be honest, I don't go to facebook for nothing unless my wife calls for me to see something totally stupid a family member put on there. I don't twitter. So I have no clue about the ADs or trolling or what they said. I didn't care enough to go read them after indictment, other than those posted on this board.

But without the perfect storm of a fake Steele Dossier ...from what I read, the trolls and ads wouldn't have had any influence, even the tiny tiny tiny % it had. Hell they don't happen if not for the media selling us on the Steele Dossier. Now that is concerning because it was the direct results of a FORGING Agent that was feed by Russians.

But we each get to form our opinions

So far there is no evidence of collusion. The indictment seems to indicate easily manipulable American patsies on both sides.

Mueller and gang had to save face so that they could end this charade but still come up with something to justify their one (?) year investigation. I'll bet that this will be the eventual end to the Mula (sic) investigation. Just watch.
