A secondary hand can be taped so it should not affect his shooting or his defense. But could affect his off hand dribbling.

Is it official he won't play tomorrow night?

I'm assuming he will. But even if he sits a game or two or even 3. He should be good to go for the 4 in 4 that is needed to salvage the season.

This doesn't add up. Why dismiss them from the team now and not at the end of the season. Coach couldn't wait til March?

According to steve Irvine on Twitter, he is expected to play.

They were tweeting inflammatory things after being warned. I think.

Some of the tweets disappeared after the fact and Dieons entire twitter account did.

Thomas, I only saw him retweeted a couple of Lavenders tweets.

Ideally, you could have kept Smallwood on the team but given him his release so he could contact other teams for next year. But kept him on the bench.

But realistically, we won't need him the rest of the year so it probably helps big man recruiting by having it known now.

And, we will have a number of open spots like I long expected.

Hurtado would be immediately eligible because of the redshirt. Im not trying to run anyone off but we don't know how good he is or is not. And if he is not very good maybe we can fill the spot with someone better?

I don't think we can assume he is as good as anyone we have or he would not have redshirted. And he still dresses out. We could put him in if we had to. Instead of playing 4 on 5 or something unlikely.

RE: Smallwood
Here's my factual theory.

Smallwood didn't like watching Gueye getting his minutes this year. Smallwood had a $10,000 dragon tattoo and seniority and been riding the bench for years.

He watched all season as Gueye got his minutes and bricked 3 pointers and turning the ball over and over.

The rice finally boiled over last Saturday night watching Gueye get minutes even down at home to a 5-win team.

tha...tha..thats all folks!

This is the reason and and you can take this and $6.50 and get a Denny's grand slam breakfast.

Wrong.

I guess that was the other player you referenced was leaving?

Actually, there will be more.

McCoy? I have a hard time seeing any of the others leaving unless it's Hurtado but even that seems like a stretch unless he's super unhappy about redshirting.

Only if he got a NCAA waiver to play elsewhere...

RE: Smallwood
Hate to see McCoy or Reynolds leave. As it stands now they both hold special places in Blazer history.

McCoy (as far as I can tell) is the only player to go the whole season (8 minutes) and never take a shot. If he leaves he will be the only player who has never taken a shot.

Reynolds is the only player who has never missed a shot. He has played 14 minutes and is 2-2 from the field. One two and one three. As far as I can tell, no other player has been perfect from the field.

I'm not sure he would need one unless we refused to release him. That is, I am not 100% clear on the rule but you may be. Regardless, I have a hard time seeing us not release a guy we asked to redshirt if he wanted.

I doubt Hurtado goes. Ehsan coached Greivis Vasquez in college, and Hurtado and Vasquez are both from Venezuela. I think Hurtado came to UAB because of that connection.

I don't disagree with that. Unless the coaching staff feels like he would be better off someplace else. And we don't really know what the staff thinks about his prospects beyond redshirting him this year.

If I recall, they know he was not a great outside shooter when they signed him. And, I think he has put on some weight since high school. Which could hurt his lateral quickness with so many quick wings and points.

I don't think either will leave if they intended to be 2 & 4 year walk ons.

If they both thought they could earn a scholarship next year, well, they have not. Mccoy could be redshirted and get a year of eligibility back but I don't view him as a scholarship player. Beyond maybe a semester if we have one open and it won't keep us from signing a mid year transfer.
