Lol, is Bourne reviled? Maybe by ignorant people who only care about FBS. I don’t know one person who thinks that poorly of JB.

Interesting to think how things could be so different today
funny, Carrier gets credit for building the athletic dept, but fired Lefty, hired Lemish, hired Dillard turned down the A10 and never built an athletic facility from 1985 until his departure in 1998.
Bourne and King have done more in the last 5 years than carrier did in 13 and are reviled.
DM2 - are you saying we should have moved on from Carrier earlier? I guess I am confused.
The good has outweighed the bad by far.
My opinion is Carrier and Bourne have been great for JMU. I wish they had worked together in the same era. I think Carrier's willingness to go for it, and Jeff's ability to execute could of been a hell of a duo.
I think Charlie has done a lot of great things, but I think he, as well as the last two presidents, have been very non aggressive athletics wise when it came to Men's basketball, Baseball, and the move to FBS.

On the women's side Tamera Young was the easy #1. On the Men's side my personal favorite, other than 24, would not of been someone that put up huge stats.
I could almost categorize them about 5 from the men's team for different categories.
Here's my five from different categories.
Linton Townes
Tyrone Shoulders
Steve Blackmon
Charles Fisher
David Dupont
Well this group did more than any others. They are simply the best JMU has ever fielded.
Tyrone and David over Dan Ruland? Really?

I was thinking the same thing. Dan was far better than Tyrone or Blackmon and Steve was a friend of mine.
If I look at a full four years, Dan would be the top center to play for JMU IMO. If I look at Junior and Senior years only, I would give a slight edge to Clayton Ritter. That guy went from an awkward Freshman to dominating Florida in the NCAA tournament his Senior year.

huh? r you kidding? do i need to pull up the 1,000 posts on "monitoring", I could site 10 more issues, but wont go to that detail
my fault - i guess he is revered
as I have said, King and Bourne dont get the credit they deserve while Carrier could do no wrong.

For those that don't like Bourne (and they do exist), you are right: it is due to ignorance. He was never the one that needed convincing to go to FBS. Remember: he was the one that put his neck out and said many years ago we'd be FBS in x amount of months (12-24 if I'm not mistaken). Which is EXACTLY why JMU says very little about FBS: there are zero benefits to talking about it unless it is absolutely going to happen.
The blame should have been on Rose, who said JMU would never be FBS under his watch, and he was right. But since Bourne was the face of the athletic department, he was getting blamed.
For those looking at the big picture, Bourne has done amazing things for JMU athletics. We have one of the most competitive all around programs in the country. He is a great representative of JMU and if you have ever had the chance to speak with him in person, he's a really great guy.
He has absolutely made mistakes, and some big ones (MBB is a HUGE one), but when the ship gets moving in the right direction, very rarely does it take a step backwards.

Yeah, Bourne is pretty great at his job and to top it all off, very approachable and friendly. He may love a good wine & charcuterie plate, but he’s very good at making people feel comfortable around him. I admire that in a leader.
