Nope...it should help bring a few decent sports bars though.

It will be interesting what happens to the St Pete Bowl if this becomes reality. Actually a 3rd tier bowl in either Ybor or St. Pete would work. I can't image the Trop survives though.

Trop goes down as the last rays moving van leaves the parking lot. rays are on the hook for the demolition fee too

Why would you say that. The stadium wasn't even built for the Rays. It was built to entice the Chicago White Sox to move south when they were negotiating for a new park in Chicago.

Without a tenant it becomes a white elephant...can't survive on a smattering of events.

One other thing I forgot about. With the TB Rowdies trying to build a 20K MLS stadium on the waterfront in St Pete, I wonder if that would also be an option for St Pete bowl. I was always under the impression that they were tied to the Rays, but not sure if that really is true.

I doubt it. The OCS would be financed by donors, where as the Rays are mooching off the city and county governments. I also had one prominent city official tell me to my face that there would be no multi-use factor with the Rays and Bulls-each will build their own dedicated facility.

I highly doubt any MLS stadium is ever built in St Pete. Edwards is struggling to keep his MLS bid afloat and is now trying to find more investors to boost his bid. If baseball struggled to draw because of where ST Pete is geographically, the same will apply to a minor sport like soccer.

I also know that secretly, St Pete officials are excited about the idea of having the Trop space for further downtown development. There are at least 3 major corporations who have already said they will build a larger HQ on that property if it was available. Jabil being #1.

The Rays needed to be in Tampa and St Pete will get better economic value out of using that property for businesses, condos, and restaurants. Win/Win.

I would love to see the Rowdies get into MLS. The rivalry with the Lions would kick it up a notch.

Remember the Storm-Predators games from the 90's ? Yeah. Now THAT was a rivalry. The Knights and Bulls don't hold a candle to those old grudge matches.

The land is worth more as a mixed use development than it is as a stadium I would imagine.

I also don't think the Bulls would go from paying rent to one team owner (Glazers) only to pay rent to another (Steinberg).

They want their own stadium, but probably want something more "grandiose (I.E. - Expensive) than a steel stadium that they can add on to as they go (as with UCF).

The problem is that there isn't the money for something like that.

Shoot, they even printed t-shirts.

That I agree with...but a one off bowl game in mid/late December isn't a huge deal.

Having 20k quality seats is about all the St Pete Bowl needs most years. It could work at YBor.

I think the Trop owners also made a play for the San Francisco Giants too but I haven't found anything yet. See if you can find shirts for them too. 07-coffee3
