I don’t think Ball State would get there, but CMU and Buffalo should both get serious at large looks from the committee

ball st was undefeated against a good non conf slate. if they finish strong but fall in the mac tourney final they got a shot.

Toledo was ranked in the top 25 a few years back and was not chosen for an at large. the best thing the league has going for it this year is that a lot of teams were really good non-conf. teams that are not even in contention in the MAC beat NCAA caliber teams in non-conf. 7th ranked conference in the country.

Toledo had a very good record that year (only three losses, including the MAC tournament) but a weak schedule. I think we ended up around 36th in RPI. Buffalo, ranked 20 in RPI right now, could end up in the low 20s even with a loss in the tournament.

RE: WBB at large bid
Looking at the MAC this year from top to bottom and the "big" non-conference wins, the league RPI ranking (#7 among the 30 some conferences, last I heard IIRC) etc. it is hard to believe that the MAC will not have a very strong case for an at-large berth this year. However, never underestimate the pro-major conference biases of the selection committee which has a number of parameters that they can consider and WEIGH AS THEY SEE FIT (and apply differently to different teams to justify their choices). At this point if CMU, Buffalo (and Ball State) continue to impress, it will be a travesty if the MAC does not get an at-large bid, but don't be surprised if instead that bid goes some middle of the pack "major" conference team with a 17-14 type record that includes 1 or 2 "good wins" and a ton of "good losses".

UB takes down CMU on their home court. Amazing game. Class of the NCAA if you ask me. Both bigs can win the post against top competition. Guard play and shooting is terrific as well.
CMU 19-4 (12-1)
UB 20-4 (11-2)

Send the tape of that game into the selection committee. Two excellent teams playing great basketball. I don’t see how you can exclude one from the tournament.

Buffalo and CMU put on a show tonight at Alumni Arena and it was pleasure to watch. I expect both of these teams to meeting again in the Championship. If both run the table until that Saturday I don't see how the NCAA can leave one out

I watched the entire game on ESPN3. It is one of the better WBB games I can remember and that 1st half was especially an offensive masterpiece by both teams. I agree that barring serious injury problems or a complete meltdown by one or both, these two should meet in the MACC game in Cleveland and, if so, I also agree that I can't see how the NCAA could not invite both----however, those NCAA selection committees can be quite resourceful in justifying poor decisions, so I won't believe it until it actually happens.

big win for buffalo's at large hopes. their overall resume is better than CMU, so if you are a MAC fan first the hope would be for CMU or BSU to win the tourney and Buffalo (and maybe CMU/BSU) to get an at large. And really, based on resume, Buffalo is an 7th/8th seed right now based one record vs rpi top 100 and road/neutral wins vs solid P5 teams

A month ago i still believed we would only be a 1 bid league. Now, if Buffalo and CMU win out, and Ball State runs the table in Cleveland.....I could see a small outside shot at 3 bids. Buffalo and CMU would probably both be top 25 RPI with 5 losses

UB is getting listed as "first four out"... Not even considered a bubble team at this point...

RE: WBB at large bid
There really is no justification for keeping either UB or CMU out this year (providing they keep winning the rest of the year). Because the MAC's non conference performance was very good, both teams are picking up plenty of top 100 RPI wins, which you normally do not get the chance to do in the MAC. Their resume's should be good enough, but I never trust the honesty of the power 5 conferences who usually control the committee.

RE: WBB at large bid
I did a quick rundown this afternoon of top 100 RPI wins for UB, CM, and Ball state. Buffalo has 10, Central 5, and Ball State 4. That tells me that UB would get an at large bid, but probably not the other two. Buffalo's wins:
#20 CMU
#29 Ball State
#47 Nebraska
#72 St.Johns
#81 Toledo
#81 Toledo
#88 UNLV
#92 Miami
#92 Miami
#100 Ohio
CMU's wins
#17 Buffalo
#29 Ball State
#92 Miami
#100 Ohio
#100 Ohio
Ball State's wins
#52 Western Kentucky
#57 Purdue
#91 Clevelnd State
#92 Miami
