Nobody loves a winner more than I, and I don't consider a guy who leaves a job for a better job or more money as "ditching a program." You're one of the few fans I've known who falls in love with a losing coach, and wants then to stay around long after they have proven that they can't get the job done. No doubt you are a better fan than I, but I can spot a loser or a mediocre coach after watching him for a while, and I'm not afraid to say so, because I don't get to be pals with the coaches.

I don't understand where MJS is coming from on this "ditching a program" stuff either. It's almost like he thinks that a coach signs on for life with a program, and should stay forever, whether that is best for the coach or the program. And if a coach leaves for a better opportunity, it is somehow a personal affront. Go figure!

Not a personal affront. Just an affront to a program I deeply care about. I will always "love" Mike Newell for turning down Marquette because of his dream of making us a nationally relevant program. If he had the Stephens Center (or even Verizon Arena), the financial resources we have now, and our current administration he just might have done it. Could we have become Wichita State or Gonzaga? Maybe, maybe not, but that was his (and my) dream. The main thing those schools have is coaches who love where they are at and were willing to stay there despite numerous offers from "blue blood" programs. Beard re-ignited that dream for a few of us diehard fans for a couple of months, but was gone before we even knew what happened. Chasse gave him his "shot" and, before his one season was even over, was trying his hardest to put together a very competitive financial package. I believe the only way this program could ever move to a higher level is with a great coach who wants to make us "big-time" and is willing to make a long-term commitment. Changing coaches every year or two will never do it. While I realize the likelihood of that happening is very small, excuse me for wanting success for our program.

I don't think you'll ever find a great coach who will stay at a program long enough to do what you're talking about. Tp be honest I really never had that dream for our program. Just want to win. You have to be somewhat lucky to find great coaches one after another, but you won't do it for sure just by moving up an assistant on your bench, just to save having to do a coaching search. Men's basketball is the lifeblood of our program. Screw it up like it is now, and you're dead in the water. Too bad women's basketball isn't our lifeblood here, or we'd be in great shape.

I doubt you will argue with the fact that the women's team is where they are for only one reason- Joe Foley. He has chosen to stay here despite offers from bigger schools (I can't give you definitive examples, but it would be crazy to believe he hasn't had offers). Is there a men's coach out there who would do what Joe has done for us? Probably not, but it doesn't hurt to dream.

That's why I was hopeful when we hired Wes. His son his playing basketball for his grandfather- how cool is that? Wes wouldn't have left after a great year or two, even if he had great offers. Some things are more important than money. Maybe you are right that hiring him was a mistake. But the fat lady hasn't sung yet.

The fat lady hasn't sung yet but she has her party dress on. Hopefully she can belt out the notes and move on. This program isn't going anywhere with Wes. He looked pretty good on paper and him being a hometown guy is sweet and all but as men's basketball supports the other sports we need someone that can put a product on the floor that will put more than 2000 folks in the seats and create some excitement for the program.

Some probably call me a fool, but I'm not that big a fool. I'd never argue with you over Joe Foley. No doubt the best college coach in the state. No doubt too that Arkansas would love to have hired Joe, but they would never admit that they'd like to have a guy who had previously been at LR.

There is little doubt that when Joe retires women's basketball will be no better than middle of the pack, in the Belt, like all our other sports. Our success in women's basketball is 100% because of Coach Foley.

You don't think Sandra Rushing could get the job done in Little Rock? She already has 500 + wins. Been to the NCAAs past 2 years.

And why would she make a lateral move from Conway to Little Rock?
