This is real good news. With these people lining up behind it, the state should not have a problem with the rental car tax.

Of course a cynic might point out that if the BJCC stadium proposal fails, they (Watts and the BOT) might be faced with a demand to build the OCS. By backing the BJCC, they can avoid such a potential confrontation.

They get what they want - UAB does not get an OCS. Why would they oppose it?

By the time we are actually able to build one, the land UAB bought for it will all be built over.

Well, the flip side is when it doesn't happen they can say that they tried, were behind it, and someone else screwed it up

That is great news to know that BOT approves. Also it is great to know that the corporate community approves, as well. This is going to happen, sooner than we expected. I can't wait until they break ground and to see the heavy machinery preparing foundation for the new stadium, uptown. This is huge!

The BOT considers it the lesser of two evils.

We have nice place holders for a stadium and will require little demo. Look at it this way. In 20 years the cockroaches will have died off or retired and we will get another new stadium if we can do anciaymake it happen. Let’s build this one, grow out program and then move it on campus when the time and political climate is more conducive.

It may even be a kick start of a potential move up in conferences.

In 20 years, would the BJCC be adjacent to UAB's northern campus?

Its a student decision, like the Students said they put their vote for the decision, they want a clean, safe and a all American site to visit and not go to the ghetto. Hence Johnson town Indiana the future. An all American cite and place to play that's when we will play.

Amen AB. The flip side is there will be a Finis VI in power by then, so we have to keep doing everything in our power to keep fighting.

The good news is the Bammerist out of state recruiting policies will actually undermine them over time. For every four kids from Texas that come to the Crapstone and pay the out-of-state tuition, one will stay in Bham and be at worst apathetic toward us—not adversarial.

In realistic terms, UAB will be using someone else's stadium for many years - probably decades. The university has a very long list of pressing priorities that come in ahead of an OCS. As long as it can use a stadium for just annual rent, it is likely to put its scarce funding and land allotment elsewhere. Perhaps some time in the latter part of this century, a newer stadium of our own may have more appeal. It might even be an MPF (DOME?)

I was thinking the same thing. Is your family worried you might come back as a zombie or something?

That's a legitimate concern. Considering our president is a neurologist, I'm sure he's more aware of the current and future legal issues than most. But again, he's not backing away from the stadium project.

The future of football as we know it IS a bit shaky. However, I still lean toward the idea that it will still be sponsored and still be popular.
