So now there is page after page in the game thread about all the steps you have to go through to watch the Monarchs, on a flipping phone or laptop or iPad. Why should we even have to do this at all? CUSA sucks and the folks at ODU sure don't help much. Used to be able to watch at least some of the games on local stations.

Weak sauce.

Btw, congrats to the team for playing a great game, on the road no less. One of the best they have played in awhile. Haven't lost a league game on the road.19-5 record. You almost wouldn't know that from this now turned into techie thread.

I will agree wholeheartedly with the weak sauce television coverage. However, the options we have to watch the games that are televised, are not very complex though. The ESPN3 and Facebook options are actually super easy and take about 30 seconds for most folks to get tuned in. CUSAtv is pretty spotty though.

I have an older IPAD, Apple TV, ROKU, and a desktop computer. I could access the web page and select the game against LA Tech Saturday night, but the game would not load. The indication was that my Media Player needed to be something other than it is.

I am able to watch ESPN3 streaming via my Apple TV.

Is there something that I can go out and purchase - Firestick maybe - that won't cost an arm and a leg that will allow me to watch these games on my big screen 4K TV? Can someone please take the time to list the other things that you have to do - and how - in order to make said new device work for getting the games?

You can put the video (Stadium on Facebook and a lot of others) on your TV (with your Apple TV) using screen mirroring. It's under control panel of you iPhone or iPad and can be accessed directly by swiping up.

That's really one of the bigger drawbacks to the streaming services. It adds variables to reliable experiences. Each person could have x device, y, connection, x.2 firmware. You could be using a iPad, Iphone, Android, Mac, Windows 7 desktop, Roku, etc. You could have a user with no space left on their device and not quite enough memory so it's jittery at best. You could have another program running eating up memory causing the stream to read/write to the hard drive for swap space and causing a bad experience. That's where TV was better. It just worked. We'll be shunning a decent size of the population that still wants that, or better yet needs that, as they don't have the know how or drive to figure it all out.

I've done that for other streaming videos using my Apple TV and IPAD. The problem I am having with Facebook - Stadium is getting the streaming content started on any device. I can access it but when I select it, it doesn't load and start playing on either my IPAD or Desktop Computer. Both stated that my 'media player' was incompatible. Will Firestick work better? Does that just plug into the HDMI port on my TV? Other than purchasing the Firestick, is there another charge involved after that to access and play the content (i.e. Facebook - Stadium)? Thanks for the assist.

Case in point: I tried to watch the Middle Tennessee game on the Facebook video app on my Samsung TV. Unwatchable. On my cell phone it was choppy, and on my laptop it was almost flawless. It's difficult to cast from an Apple device without Apple TV — there is an app, Video Cast I think it's called, that lets you cast if it can pick up the stream, but that's hit or miss.

Might break down and cut the cord to get Direct TV Now, since it apparently comes with a free current-gen Apple TV.

Soon as 5G comes out we'll all just have wireless routers at our house and you can pick and chose whatever content provider you want. This is like when everyone found out you didn't need AOL to get to the interweb. Now we're going to have a similar transition in content. With the new OTA wave and things like AirTV, Tablo, Roku, etc coming to market providing people with the basic 30-40 OTA HD channels they need and overlaying that with Sling, DirecTV Now, etc who have partnerships with for pay content. It's a brave new world.

Thanks, Monarchblue and ODU09.

I have no interest in trying to figure out the myriad of "doohickeys and streaming services, etc". I'm old and my brain is losing it's adaptability. If I was in charge I would get all the ODU games. all sports on ESPN3 whether the rights are bought here and there by any of these entities. At least you know you can watch the game. I've never had any problem with the ESPN feed using my Apple adapter thingy and an HDMI cord. I sound like a grouchy old lady...GET OFF my lawn!!

Agree, but some feeds cannot be cast. For instance, Stadium's website feed cannot be cast. When they run it on FB, that video can be cast, but the regular site cannot.

For what its worth, I think the whole process has been made to seem more complicated than it actually is by all the different responses here. If you want to give it a go with the Fire Stick, there is not much too it and I would be happy to help walk you through it. Just shoot me a pm if you decide to give it a go and need some assistance.

^ ditto. I got into the weeds. If you use a fire stick and install facebook it should work just fine unless you have poor internet.

If you are using Chrome you should be able to cast it no matter what. You can also cast from your phone (worst case scenario) by casting your entire screen if the site/app does not offer Chromecast integration. It can be a bit annoying because you can't use your phone for anything else when you do that, but it does work.

They dont have the same standards for a viewer as Neilsen. They should not be compared.

Yeah, the viewer counter at the top never read more than 2K as far as I saw, the LT was more like 1.4K for a high. Unless I'm understanding it wrong and it was in hundreds of thousands then the number in this article seem hard to believe.

It would be nice if Harry would back up his words with real data. Maybe there is a measurable way to compare both. Seems like he should do that research before making this news - makes him seem sensationalized and buzzfeedish. Not something we want HM to be associated with.
