Just Blake Anderson doing Blake Anderson things
Admitted today publicly to a group of reporters and boosters that he was "Offered a whole lot of money to be the head coach at SMU" and turned it down because "He still has something left to accomplish here"
For those that don't speak fluent Blake Anderson (few do) What he's actually saying is that he didn't think he could win immediately at SMU, and is convinced that we're going to having an amazing year next season and he can use that to earn himself a much higher paying gig at a much bigger program than SMU.
Whether or not he actually got offered the SMU job officially is anyone's guess. In short, Blake being Blake.

If he said he had the opportunity then he did.
SMU is a tough springboard. Chad Morris is lucky he was able to pull a payday out of it.

It's a gamble though and you don't have to look very far to see a prime example of that. Just about everyone and his uncle thought Hud at Louisiana was destined for P5 money and look how that turned out.

Well, we were finalizing a deal with Sonny when Blake was "offered". Some boosters did reach out to him though.

If Arkansas State and Blake Anderson were a Facebook Relationship status, it'd be "It's complicated"
We can be won back, but we're also teetering on the edge of going full Georgia Southern against Tyson Summers.

I think that sums it up quite well.

We give him a hard time. The fact is, he's ran a solid program. Although, if next year is another 7-8 won affair, he will have only served as a very solid segway in to what is hopefully a next level coach.

The problem is that as fans we're not entirely comfortable with coaches staying here long term (There's not much history of it working out well) and Anderson is heading into year 5. I think we sort of miss coaching searches and the fun they can provide.

Good coach, but no he cannot. At least not beyond a conference dynasty. He can't turn ASTATE into a top G5 name. You'll need someone else for that.
My personal opinion: He relies way too much on high quality transfers, and such makes it nearly impossible to be good in the early parts of a season. This is why his name hasn't been tossed around by P5 coaching searches. There have been a few here and there, but I think most don't want to have to depend on high level transfers, a recruiting tactic that you can't really do at said high level.

On the other hand, I'm willing to give him that for at least another year. His unusual recruiting has been, to some degree, dictated by our coaching turnovers during those years when we began our run. That's one thing I admire about him and this staff. They have stuck multiple thumbs in the leaking dike while maintaining the winning seasons. Slowly they have moved more towards traditional recruiting. And I'm especially happy with the Arkansas high school signees this year. I hope that trend continues providing the talent matches the level at which we play.

That’s been my main gripe with him. All the JC transfers. He’s been building for next year, not long term.

We signed a lot of high school guys so maybe the JC heavy days are done. I am sure it will be used if we spring a leak but hopefully that won't be as often. It seemed his first few years we needed immediate help in different areas.
