I have a feeling it’s not if but when we don’t see you posting anymore.

But to somewhat answer your question. All 6 ETSU coaches in the past 30 years have at least went to 1 NCAA tournament with all but DeChellis and Forbes going to at least 2. Chances are we get a good coach. I would want to get another up and coming assistant at a good power 5 who can bring in a transfer with him and has ties to higher caliber recruits as opposed to an existing head coach at a smaller program who doesn’t have those recruiting ties to better athletes.

I’ll enjoy the rest of the season first though. There isn’t a game left that is a for sure thing and they actually all look like dog fights ahead.

6 in 30? who am I missing.
going back 30+ years

Robinson, 2 NCAA
LeForce 2 NCAA
DeChellis 1 NCAA
Bartow 2 NCAA
Forbes 1 NCAA

My bad I added 1 extra. Meant 5 in 30 years.

Bartow had 3 NCAA appearances though.

RE: JC Press: Q and A with Coach Forbes
Chances are we get a good coach because the buy out for Forbes this year is around $1 million I'm pretty sure. You would think we could use that money to go after someone top notch. We could probably justify paying someone $400-500K/year up front rather than the $200K we have typically started coaches out at.

Secondly, I am not interested in Wes Miller at UNCG. It appears that him and one of his assistants could probably use anger management training, and that starts giving me flashbacks to Murry. No thanks.

Man, I'm glad you said that - not that they'll ask us. I *completely* agree! - including the bartow reminder. That's about the second thing that comes to mind when I think of him. He's no doubt a good, committed coach, but I just couldn't handle his personality.

UNCG coach isnt coming here. He already makes over $230k and has his team playing better than ETSU. His next move will be much higher than us.

I also dont know that we could get one of Forbes' longtime assistants to stay. They have been together forever.

I do agree that we could use Forbes' buyout to make an attractive offer for a good replacement.

Why would one of the current assistants turn us down? If Forbes were to leave and his assistants leave with him, their next career move would be to get a mid major head job. They would not say no.

We should not be going after another mid major coach, no matter what they have done (Wes Miller has 2 winning seasons out of 7...just no). Power 5 assistant with good recruiting ties or someone on current staff.

I would vote for Shay if he wants to be a head coach.

HC salary at ETSU is just as life changing for them as the one that Forbes will take from a Power 6 school.

It’s usually not. In fact a coach usually brings on a new assistant or 2 when they go to a new school as a package for a player they want. Think Brian Collins and TJ Cromer.

So it is just merely coincidence that three of the ETSU coaches and the director of basketball sports performance came via the Florida JUCO system/ut.

Of course not but I don’t think it was a requirement that forbes bring those guys for him to have got the job at etsu and neither will it be at his potential new job. There is no way say ole miss hires Forbes only on the basis he bring all his assistants.

No a University won't require him to bring them, but it will be his choice to hire his own staff...just like he hired here and expect that staff to have very familiar faces.

Yes I agree but if ETSU offered one of the current assistants the head job they would take it and Forbes would understand. It is the next step for their career. He isn’t going to hold them back.

Unless it was changed in one of the extensions, it appears from scanning his contract that Forbes buyout is something between $150k and $300k. And it’s payable monthly thru the end of the deal.

The one I saw I thought also mentioned something that the school could also do a home and home in lieu of the buyout.

There’s no guarantee an asst would take it. If the offer is the same $175k + $27k stipend that Forbes originally got, they could make substantially more as an asst at a P5 if that’s where Forbes lands. The P5s that are currently open and those rumored to be coming open all average between $230-$270 per asst. Success similar to what they’ve had at ETSU would position them for much better HC job than ETSU in 2-3 yrs. All 3 of these guys have very successful backgrounds and no reason to “settle” for first opportunity given the stage they’re at in their careers.
