That's crazy, usually schools just say they are charging more and that's that....NOt sure how any UTSA fan thought this was actually going to pass, look at your student attendance for basketball. I don't know what your student attendance is for football but judging by basketball doesn't look like you get that great of student interest in sports....

You make it sound like you believe a similar measure would pass with a unanimous vote in Bowling Green...

Bowling Green University in BOwling Green Ohio? What the hell are you talking about? The city is not voting for it, the school is... My point was how would UTSA expect this to pass if you allow the students to vote?...Most students sounds at this particular university are not that invested in sports or at least basketball...Sounds like football they have good interest, but basketball is another key sport if you ever want to take next step and upgrade your arena.....WKU did not have a vote taken on last athletic fee, it was automatically added...I am sure the profs and newspaper staff at WKU are against anything sports related but that is at most universities...However enough students care and realize sports at WKU helps grow the university perception wise if we have success on the court and field...Only helps universities, look at UCF as example...

No, Bowling Green Kentucky, where Western is located, so where the vote would happen.

There is student apathy in all G5 schools.

Hard to make them realize that when professors are lobbying their students to vote NO in every class.

Yes but 1500 show up to a game compared to 50 is a large gap at some of our schools...For the most part WKU students seem fully engaged now that they are showing up to basketball games and not on their phones the entire game at least...We have usually 4k for football and 1k for basketball....Only item I don't get is the 1 month excuse for students noy coming to games mid dec. to mid jan.....I would guess at least %40 of WKU student enrollment lives within a 45 mile radius of Bowling Green when campus is closed(but not really closed that long if enrolled in Winter Term)...."Going HOme" is really just driving down the street to the game and more and more students live off campus apartments nowadays starting as early as sophomore year....So I don't buy that excuse...

The problem is that even in G5 schools with strong student support, they are still outnumbered by the apathetic and the instate P5 fans.

These types of measures are unlikely to pass at most G5 programs, unless the apathetic don't vote or it's an extreme case like UAB where football is literally on the line.

So what you're saying is that I was correct you used their overall basketball attendance to assert their student basketball attendance is poor. 07-coffee3

Also, the capacity for the Convocation Center is 4,080.

THe gym holds about 1500 and when we played against UTSA on a Saturday didn't look like 500 total people in the seats, how many actual students attended those basketball games? 50? Why would overall attendance have anything to do with a "student" vote?

This just reinforces my above response. 07-coffee3

And, the issue isn't with a student vote.

Yes UTSA has weak student support in basketball, why is that so hard for you to understand? Well without more money from students than a desperately needed new basketball arena will not happen then right?

MT's student support is weak, especially on Saturdays. It's embarrassing, and something needs to be done to get them to the games.

I blame the marketing department and the powers-that-be.

You clearly don't understand what this whole discussion was about...

You made the assertion, as a WKU fan, that UTSA basketball student attendance is low and based off that assertion, UTSA football attendance is most likely low since it doesn't seem like they garner great student interest in sports.

With data provided by the university, which is only overall attendance that we have made available to us, I showed that UTSA does have great football attendance.

Then our friend Josh joined the discussion, not using any logic, believing whatever he reads on the Internet. Apparently, because you'd used the word student, you must know what you're talking about and that I lacked reading comprehension. Clearly by your inaccuracy (again) of the capacity at the Convocation Center, this isn't always the case.

The issue is if you're going to infer student attendance based off overall attendance for basketball (which you basically admit to), you have to do the same for football. By doing so, it seems like their student attendance (and interest) for football is much greater than basketball.

I'm not saying UTSA basketball student attendance isn't low; I simply argued that you made your assertion based off their overall attendance (which your later responses indicate) to which Josh had disagreed because you used the word student and couldn't possibly be making inferences from their overall attendance.

UTSA basketball student attendance is low. This can be inferred from data provided for their overall basketball attendance.

By the way, I'm done with this discussion as I was proven right.

What the hell are you talking about, are you a reporter from CNN or a Russian troll bot that spits out nonsense on message boards? I never said student support at UTSA football games was low, I said I have no idea...Now for basketball when we played camera showed a few students but not many and was not a great atmosphere for basketball that day....I don't know what your deal is with all of this? LIke arguing with a brick wall seems to me....I don't really care one way or the other, my only point was of course UTSA students were not going to vote for any athletic hike to go towards athletics when at least for one of the top 2 sports one any campus(men's basketball is considered 2nd to only football) they have very little student support....This is fact and even UTSA fans have chimed in for years saying they need a new arena, which is another fact...
