Eastern Michigan @ Kent State
The Flashes host the EMU Eagles tonight. This is a must have home game as the middle of the pack remains tight. It would be nice to see Western Michigan drop one on Miami in other MACtion this evening.

Go Flashes!

Now I'm concerned. The past 2 games we couldn't score when we need it. Finishing near the hoop is being our Achilles heel.

That was, without a doubt, one of the softest defensive performances I have ever seen from a Kent State team.

More breakaway baskets in one game than we’ve given up all season. Amazing how badly we had to play to lose this game.

No sign of a turn around this year. This team has lost their focus and the last two games have been ugly to watch. Two road games back to back.....it won't get any better with our road record. The coach is praised when they win-how about the loses?????

RE: Eastern Michigan @ Kent State
To me that was a gameplan loss. We looked unprepared for the zone. The ball has a habit of sticking on the perimeter and that just simply can't happen against the zone... But of course it did all night. Eastern's length on perimeter definitely contributed to that and our lack of length on the perimeter didn't help but still you gotta move the ball to beat the zone.

I was also massively underwhelmed with our plan to get De La Rosa the ball. We threw it over the top of Thompson to him for a bucket early then I don't think he scored another fg. He should've been down on the low block trying to get behind the zone as it shifts instead they tried to use him in the mid range to initiate the offense. Emu was even giving us fits just getting the ball to him there. The only time it looked good was when Duling was playing off him and AD was finding him on cuts around the basket. Duling did a really good job of getting lost in the zone tonight which is really encouraging.

One of the most frustrating plays of the night was when the late turnover in front of the bench where Avery tried to throw it to AD out by the three point arc and it got knocked away and stolen. That was out of a timeout and Avery held the ball, stared down AD the lobbed a high risk low reward pass to our 7 footer outside the arc. Not sure what the end game was going to be, but if you really want to get it to him there then run some kind of motion don't just assume you can dribble up, lock on to him, and lob it to him. That can't happen... Especially out of a timeout.

EMU was quicker than us on the perimeter and we helped by making a lot of lazy passes. It also didn’t help that AD missed 4 or 5 layups for no particular reason. It’s do or die time.

This can probably sum up the trouble we had with the zone. Avery came in with 15 turnovers on the season. Tonight he had 5.

It's probably no coincidence that the only guys that had good night's offensively we're probably our three most athletic players.
