Yep. This is 100% accurate. Only 3 Saturday home games. I know someone on the fan board/committee that was formed so the information is 100% accurate. Only 5 home games in 2018.

If I remember correctly, STF traded off 1 home Sat. game to schedule the away game with FSU. Athletics needed the $$ and FSU paid a big chunk up front which helped NIU meet their financial obligations.

That means that 2 MAC November games will be mid-week. If that is true, the Utah game will be on a Saturday. I can't see that happening unless it's Saturday night prime time on CBSSN.

Absolutely correct that this schedule was orchestrated to bring maximum dollars to Athletics. This may be the model for the future with only 5 home games each year and 3 OOC games at the big boys for the purse.

Sad to hear only 3 Sat home games again. As additonal road games are needed in the future to pay the bills, hopefully Frazier can get series with Power 5 programs from reasonable distances so that fans can travel to weekend away games.

1) Minnesota (PJ Fleck running the program), absolutely beatable and Minneapolis is a driveable distance (362) from DeKalb.
2) Iowa State, closest Big 12 university with former Toledo HC Matt Campbell in charge. Ames is less than a 300 mile drive.

3) Missou- closest SEC program, qualified for a bowl this past season, 370 miles from DeKalb.
4) Kansas- Lawrence is a driveable distance(503) and the Jayhawks are a beatable team in a state with no FCS teams or G5 programs
5) Purdue- West Lafayette is less than 200 miles from DeKalb and even closer to Chicago, while Purdue has improved and won their bowl game this year, they are beatable.
6) Nebraska- with Scott Frost at the helm the Huskers will improve but having a big name program on the schedule will help Huskie recruiting. 462 mile driving distrance from DeKalb. After the 4 game series has ended NIU should try for an extension.

Kent State is 429 from DeKalb, Akron is 427, Buffalo is 595, Ohio U is 489 driving miles.

If we do have 3 Saturday games this year, that's actually better than last year, when we had 6 home games and only 2 were on a Saturday.

Well, it at least pushes the cash register in that direction.

Only Nebraska and Missouri would provide a large payoff

Big time within 300 miles
Wisconsin 100 miles from DeKalb and big time. I'd like to see a multi-year series with them
Michigan is 300 miles from DeKalb (less from Chicago) and big time
Michigan State is 280 miles from DeKalb (less from Chicago) and big time
Notre Dame is 155 miles from DeKalb (less from Chicago) and big time

They are content playing in-state directional schools, even traveling there on occasion. I give them credit for that.

ND and UM will never give up a home game, not even SF. so those are done.

UW been to SF, don't think they'd return.

But I, and most, would take a one and done on the road from any of them.

RE: 2018 Schedule
In the fantasy in my mind...we play 7 home games, all on bright warm sunny Saturdays, and the place is packed and loud, and I'm still 19 and able to drink all day, and there are young women interested in me.

I don't care about the current home game scheduling anymore, it's just disappointing..I'm living in fantasy land. Especially the part about the women.

Not just my opinion. I think it is shared by Jeff Yordon of the Illinois sports facilities authority (0wns/operates the Cell or Comiskey or whatever it is called today).

RE: 2018 Schedule
Scheduling anything in Chicago midweek at night in November is even more dumb than the midweek night games in DeKalb. People don't go to the park for the Sox in good weather, and they think that folks will be clamoring to see the Huskies? And facing another MAC team?

STF tried, but it was not an intelligent decision, IMO.

I'm hearing NIU will be playing four Saturday home games in 2018. The only weekday game will be the Friday after Thanksgiving.

I should also state that nothing is set as of now. There is still some time before anyone knows for sure.

I've heard this as well. MAC game and Utah in September and 2 more in October. Let's hope that's true.

Nothing will be set and finalized until ESPN has their say. They own the MAC and if they want all weeknight games on ESPN3, that's what they'll get.
