If the Catholic 7 wanted to stay with FBS football schools, then they wouldn't have created the new Big East in the first place. The Big East (quite correctly) doesn't want to deal with football-related conference realignment ever again. They found their niche, are making more TV money than the G5 based on just basketball alone, and aren't looking behind their backs every time that a P5 conference gets the itch to expand.

Now, does the Big East secretly hope that UConn will decide that a P5 invite will *never* come and, as a result, drop FBS football? Maybe. However, the Big East simply won't take UConn as long as it has P5 aspirations no matter how much of a short-term financial gain might be had. The C7 already dealt with that situation too many times before.

No one saw the Georgetown admin's comments on the 30 for 30 -- basically they hated dealing with a problem for a sport they fielded at a lower level.

This. The Big 12 doesn't want to expand at present, and neither does the Big East. Both have Fox contracts. It would be the easiest thing in the world to schedule a home/home for each of the Big East and Big 12 basketball programs with each other in a given season. For example, Marquette could host an Iowa State and then travel to an Oklahoma State. Everyone gets an additional two strong games added, without the expense of added programs that - at present - just don't fit into the respective conference's current plans.

UConn will not consider leaving the American until the next TV deal is worked out. Until then, it is just a fantasy.

Since the Big East only has 10 schools they can not do that.

If the Big East wanted to add 1 or 2 schools, who do you think that would be?

I don't see any need for the Big East to expand. Ten is a nice tidy number.

If UConn or Syracuse or Pitt wanted to come back, sure we'd roll out the welcome mat, LOL. But only UConn is even a remote possibility, and IMO they are very remote, because of their football.

Big 12 doesn't have a contract with FOX for basketball.

That doesn't change anything. Both TV partners would get 10 games to air between the two conferences. I don't think ESPN nor Fox would mind.

Yeah, having your closest rival 3000 miles away makes great sense.

Sorry but there is a difference between 1 or 2 sports being affiliates vs 7 or more. Gonzaga would not be able to put the sports into the WAC without basketball. Basketball is what makes the conference in the NCAA.

I can't recall seeing many fans of the Big East or its members who promote the idea of Big East expansion. Mostly outsiders. Why is that?

Big East and Big Twelve are easy targets in these types of threads because they are only at 10 members while the others have 12-14 members. There are a lot of people that just think those conferences have to get up to those numbers to keep it all nice and even (even though the conferences don't agree).

You cannot be a basketball only member. You have to play all your sports in your basketball conference if that sport is offered in that conference, can't pick and chose. They could be basketball for Big East and Indy for the others but that is not practical.

Big East should add Saint Louis and Richmond. Probably should add Dayton and VCU but I doubt they do with VCU=public and Dayton being to close to Xavier
