WKU lost today to UTSA. Wow. That could cost C-USA a second bid

Frustrating first 10 minutes. A lot better defensively, especially contesting the corner threes. Not really getting good looks on offense, though.

Adams the only guy scoring right now. But Rice leads 17-14 thanks to the good defense. I'm not sure how many games we have realistic chances to win - maybe this one, maybe the 2 in Florida, and UTEP at home? But none of those will be easy.

Ako's third 3 puts Owls up 17-14 at 8:40 mark. Stops scoring drought.

UNT shooting only 29%, but Rice not much better. Owls up only 21-20.

Now with about 3 minutes to play, Owls shooting 27%, UNT 26%. Really sad offense so far.

Both teams ice cold from field. No Austin Meyer yet today? Rice still leads by 1 but UNT at the line after the time out.

RE: Men's hoops at UNT
Positive:
-We came in with a defensive plan and I'm not sure we could execute it any better. Maybe one, two good looks for UNT's shooters

Negative:
-This is the worst offense we've run all season. No structure, no finishing, poor overall. After a couple more possessions, I think poor is being kind. Absolutely no purpose driving, passing, shooting, etc.

Finally a FT by Connor ends the drought. 23-26.

Well hopefully the offense can do something in the 2nd half. No field goal the last 8 minutes or so and only down by 1 at the half? It could be worse.

Every game we see teams extend their defense out to the point where all we can do is pass the ball around and hope to get a 3 look. We have no one to look to inside and no one that can create a shot off the dribble. Little wonder why we have these scoring droughts.

Halftime down by 1. I can't stress how well we executed on defense. Even an average offensive half by our standards and we could/should be up 10. Gotta keep at it on defense in the 2nd half and hope the shots start falling.

No Owl FGs in last 7+ minutes. But FTs pull the Owls to 25-26 at the half.

Cashaw at times can do that. But he's not at Evans or Koulechov's level for sure. Apparently the TCU transfer might be that guy next year.

The rule that allows an opposing coach to choose the foul shooter to replace an injured player remains one of the stupidest rules in any sport.

Much better shooting 2nd half (7 of 9 so far). Owls up 5 at the under-12 minute media break.

Why? If the coach of the innured player could choose, there would be a lot more "injuries" to poor FT shooting players.

How many injuries would you see in the absence of that rule? What mitigates negative consequences of this rule is the intentional foul rule.

What would you put in its place?
