RE: Interesting Info on Southwest Conference
Back on topic: After the SWC broke up, the original CUSA was set up with only 6 football playing members.
If I’m not mistaken Houston played all “power schools” in their OOC games. At first it worked as the Coogs made it to a bowl vs Syracuse (when there were very few bowls)
If I also remember correctly, the Coogs lost some very tight games vs SEC opponents in the beginning of CUSA. Either LSU, Bama or Auburn I can’t remember. I do recall CUSA doing much better than expected. ECU struggled out of the gate after finally getting the call 2 years after CUSA started.

They blew out LSU for three quarters before giving up 3 TD's in the fourth to just barely lose.

But they were blown out by a Mack Brown coached UNC team and USC.

Interesting Info on Southwest Conference
UH hosted UT at Robertson.
No problem, they’ll bring in extra bleachers. Sold a bunch of tickets to the Longhorn fans.
Fire marshall came in a week before the game and condemned the whole setup. Lots of UT fans and ticket holders didn’t get in to see the game that they had tickets for. That’s how I remember it went down.

It wasn't the fire marshall, it was a UH admin. The stands were cleared for use and had been used some recent sporting event.

It's the shame the NCAA punishes teams and players that had nothing to do with past violations. Pardee's teams had nothing to play for (besides pride and general competitiveness of course) and were still outstanding. Or was it his successor? Anyway, I was reading about those Houston teams, and it's a cool story. Seems if it weren't for the ridiculous scholarship reduction, UH would have been too good to pass up by the Big 8.

Both, Pardee and John Jenkins coached on probation. The NCAA has gotten better about punishing the guilty over the innocent. Kelvin Sampson is an example of this.

Warming to C2, all schools in the SWC had warts, Rice flew under the radar because we were so bad. Going forward, Rice, UH, needs to join hands and build on the third most populous county in our nation. It deserve one or two college teams playing at the highest level!
