App State WBB at UTA
Is the accent the one announcer has for UTA an authentic sound for the UTA area or is he a transplant from some other area?

Not being critical, just curious. It seems a bit strong which is usually not the case in broadcasting when most try and remove their accent regardless of the area of the country the accent hails from.

I am watching the game on ESPN3 so this would be the normal UTA home announcers I assume.

I disagree. I have heard worse accents up in the Dallas-Ft Worth area than anywhere in the southern part of Texas.

sounds a little overdone to me too. kinda like Reba's. that guy is annoying to listen to. more like those announcers you might hear on a friday night broadcasting some 2A football game out in the country. still a step up from having no media presence at all for uta's women sports.

RE: App State WBB at UTA
I grew up in the Piedmont area of North Carolina but in the Piedmont area that was still very much in the realm of having a mountain sound. It is an accent that is made fun of and comes across as "ignorant" to many. Living to the east of that area now the accent is enough different that my students notice and ask where I am from.

I don't generally mind accents, as I appreciate the local color, but his was a bit strong. I do like to have the name of our school pronounced correctly, and I don't think he had it down 100% but it was closer than others pronouce Appalachian.
