On the pro-jones side, but is he wrong? Haven we beaten anyone of any significance this year?

No...We have not beaten anyone of significance this year. Our biggest game to date was WK and we laid an egg. The two upcoming home games are must win games. Both I would consider significant games. We win both we are going to be mentioned in talk about who is in and who is out of NCAA tournament. We lose either or both and our only option will be to win CUSA tournament. If we can't beat these teams at home I don't think we can in tournament. This team is good enough to win both these home games. We will see if JJ can get the job done.....or not!

This is a game that will tell us if we are a top 5 team or a top 2 team. The latter being something we have yet to achieve in this conference.

0-8 all-time vs MTSU

I'm SO ready for that change. I expect a close game, and please please please substitute a little more so we don't get that late 2nd half collapse again. This will be a draining game against a tough defense....it's going to take more than 7 guys.

Well, I'm just happy that Reggie Upshaw isnt there anymore...

He was our kyrptonite it seemed. Kid would always go off. (even with the Kid'nPlay box-haircut)

His 2 Free Throws sank us two years ago in the conference finals. Ugh

Good point. If there is one thing I fault about this season is our lack of developing our back court bench. We know of two games we lost this season when our players admittedly were tired ( as stated by coach or players). Not saying it would have made a difference but we will never know. I can't help but think some of our lapses in lopsided games is due to some fatigue either mentally or physically. We can't afford that against a really good team.
But all of that being said, I believe we have the experience and talent in our starting 7 to win Thursday night. This is a good week to start our own win streak against MTSU!

RE: MTSU
JJ you make sense!

Until you think that perhaps the new guys maybe turn the ball over 3,4 times (we are on the list of national leaders in low turnover rate), hack their man from being out of position and put them on the line or when maybe the coaches think they will allow 4,5,6 more baskets from not following or having down pat defensive rotations like they have shown to be the case at practice and the like.

I still say you will see Hueitt and Godwin playing THIS YEAR. Second rotate through the CUSA schedule. Just a theory my friend .

RE: MTSU
I think these are some keys to the game.

1. How do we handle the physicality of their defense. In the past we have not been able to deal with it at all. This team is different, in that they are able to spread the floor a little better, and we have good size on the perimeter.

2. They are hard to score on. Can the 1-3-1 lead to some steals and transition buckets? Scoring against them consistently in the half court is hard. We need some easy ones.

3. Can we get average to above average shooting games from Randy, BJ, and Caver. Caver has struggled in some of our bigger games. We need good Caver to win.

4. Can we defend the 3 point line. We are sub 230 in 3 point defense. We have to keep Potts from making a bunch.

I don't think it is unreasonable to achieve all of these in one game, and we may only need to do three of them to win. If we play well we have a 50/50 shot in my opinion. If we run out of gas, or get frustrated on the offensive end by their physicality, I think it will be a lot like the WKU game.

I think some people are arbitrarily putting numbers on what are tough games and what aren't. How much different is the 95th team vs. the 105th team?

Dayton, Towson, and Marshall were all very good wins. No matter what you want to label those teams.

RE: MTSU
I hope the officials let both teams play, and not call fouls on every trip.

With us having the best 2 defenses in the conference, I can see the refs getting whistle happy.

MT had better be ready to take ODU's best shot. We play like we did at Marshall and we'll get our arses handed to us once again.

The good news, for us, is that our perimeter guys have stepped up offensively after Marshall, but two of those games were blowout wins over UTSA and UTEP.

UTEP is awful, folks. Kind of feel sorry for them.

Would any of those three teams be considered by the selection committee as significant wins?

I have no clue what the criteria the selection committee has for significant wins.

I think that most of us in Monarchland agree.

My guess is that whistle-happy refs would heavily favor MTSU. As others have pointed out on this thread, we don't have your depth. (We also as a team are still trying to figure out this newfangled free-throw concept.)

It changes on a team-by-team basis to suit the Privileged Conferences.

I think we could be a lot more concerned with what happens over the next 5 days rather than what the committee will think in 6 weeks.

Yeah, we are pretty deep, but the depth is inconsistent. I'd just as soon not see a bunch of effing free throws, even if that meant a loss for us.

I don't think any team, sans maybe Western, gets an at-large.

What neither of us needs is 30 free throws for one team, and 8 for another.

FWIW, MTSU essentially plays 8 so it's not like they have a lot more capable players than us.

The scoop with them though is that all of them can play defense well it seems. Where offensively they struggle outside of Walters, King, Potts.

I don't think you have to worry about a ton of free throws. We get fouled very little and foul even less.

I think MTSU and WKU are both still in the at-large discussion. Unless we run the table, ODU blew its chance at the free-throw line in Williamsburg.
