BJ's shooting slump has hurt as well. He was so consistent for so long but seems to have lost the feel. But the chemistry is there. If they ever do manage to get those shots falling at a good clip over many games, look out.

Impressive - do you know how much he turned down vs how much he is making? Will be interesting to see what he does when one of the really big boys come knocking. It’s in the mail.
I don't know. He got a pretty good bump this past year.
I think he was loyal to us due to our being patient with him, and his family liking it here.
Now, his parents are aging (they live in Tupelo), and if Ole Miss came a'calling. But that's not a big dog. Would Ole Miss hire a Mississippi State guy? Would Kermit even entertain Ole Miss, since he turned down State ?
I am a bit worried about Georgia. He was a finalist for LSU last year, but they hired the young kid from FecesU.
I don't see Kermit going back West or up North, though.
He has a special needs child, and she is part of the fabric of Murfreesboro. She is the BOSS (-;

Being almost 60 works against him when teams are considering head coaches.

We could hire Stansbury. Didn't take him 5 years to put an NCAA calibur team together, or 4 years to land a full recruiting class.

Depth is killing us right now. Caver can't hit a shot in the second half because he has no legs. He always comes out hot and then hits a wall. Jones has to start playing some people. Why can those guys from Middle play, but Hueitt can't?

Also, BJ has to be better. His leadership and his play have to be better in these big games. Last night Jones was giving him instruction and he yelled back at Jones. What a baby!

The 4 reserves that logged over 10 minutes off the bench for MT are juniors and seniors.

RE: MTSU
MT 2nd chance points from offensive rebounds, ODU shooting 5-25 (20%) from 3 and a few bad calls from the refs was the whole game in a nutshell

They were the better team. But they seemed to get the benefit of the doubt on every single 50/50 out of bounds call and I'm not sure how not one moving pick was called on them.

This is what happens when you don't land any recruits for 3 years.

Who do we blame for that?

Why did we not attack the zone? Standing at the top of the key throwing high looping passes to each other over and over doesn't do anything but waste the shot clock. Quick passes kill a zone. Throw it into the paint and then immediately kick it back out to the wing. You move bodies on man to man defenses, you move the ball against a zone.

That's what you have to do against a zone. You either have to get the ball to the middle or you have to dribble drive it. Jones could've called a timeout to explain these things to the guys at the end of the game, but instead he took his timeouts home with him.

Agreed, our ball movement was not very good and made us take long 3s at the end of the shot clock

RE: MTSU
So, I know all of the basketball books tell you how to attack the zone, but there is a reason MTSU has won games in the last two NCAA tournaments. They are VERY GOOD in their zone. It's easy to say, move the ball quickly or penetrate, but with their length and lateral movement and the way they close out on shooters with two high hands, it is not as easy as it might seem. You have to give them credit. They have Top 15 defense in the country for a reason, and it's not because their opponents are ignorant on the theories on how to attack their zone.

I would add that they sent 4 guys crashing the boards on every rebound and we were getting mugged under the basket. It was a rugby scrum and i only remember one or two over the back calls. I guess they took advantage of that better than we did.

I saw a lot of open shots from the wings, 5 for 25 took care of that.

Was wondering if anyone else felt the same. Certainly wasn't the reason for our loss, but it seems like we rarely got the 50-50 calls, and they weren't calling the calls that Porter usually gets when he draws contact. And don't get me started on the charge call against Caver. You know you screwed up when the entire stadium chants "REF YOU SUCK" through the entire timeout. Again, not saying that's why we lost, but it just adds to the frustration.
