JT Ibe- graduate transfer
Safety JT Ibe is another graduate transfer. He also posted a letter that states he isn’t to contact C-USA schools or any other team that Rice plays in 2018.

Buyer beware with eBay. Nah not really, I just like how his last name is pronounced. I would think he'll end up at a comparable school to Rice.
Man we're thin on defense in the middle. As I said a few days back, we're losing as many transfers it appears in football as we did in basketball. At least in the graduate variety.

Just like Anderson, Ibe was a good student. 3x on the honor roll. Can't really complain when kids who value a Rice education transfer for one year of glory elsewhere, at least not in my mind.

Agreed, just hope we get to the point where they want to stay sooner rather than later.

That will come with winning. Kids know this year's team (and the last couple years' teams, when we first started seeing this) doesn't have a chance to be a real contender.

He's the best player on defense. Big loss.

3 transfers is insignificant attrition during a coaching change (in football).
Tennessee has had 8 or 9.

Are you saying the best one coming back or the best in 2017? I'd say no way to the latter (Womac and Ellerbee were way better). As to the former, I actually thought Robert out-played him when he replaced him in the lineup after Ibe got hurt. I'm not sure if we have any 'stars' coming back on defense but Schantz, Abercrumbia, Robert and Wilkins are all comparable to Ibe IMO.

Obviously a lot of 4/5 star players get to major programs like Tenn and find that they've got some pretty stiff competition for playing time, and thus look to transfer. I wish we could get some of those to come here, but they probably can't read or write!

Hmmm, so this basketball transfer phenomenon appears to be trickling down to football, with guys moving up to better programs after performing well at crappy ones

If Ibe is graduating with a Rice degree, the situation is more like Marcus Jackson or Egor Koulechov and less like Marcus Evans or Dylan Ennis. I do not view this as a problem and if Rice was actually good instead of crap (athletically), I think we would lose fewer grad transfers.

It doesn't reflect very well on Bailiff. Former starters ending up at Texas (or Michigan), Texas Tech and Georgia Tech possibly for a 1-11 team. At least the basketball team had 23 or 24 wins last year.

He was the only player on defense that actually looked like he should be playing for a major program somewhere. The backup did a good job, but Ibe had more raw athletic ability. The four players you mention, and Carl Thompson, need to have big years. I've been waiting for the linemen to finally break out.

Cole Hunt went from backup on a bad 2015 Rice team to a most-of-the-time starter for TCU in 2016 and 2017.

It doesn't. My hope is that the new staff can whip these guys into shape, and really do something with who we have on the roster right now. I'm confident these players have been undercoached, by how much, we'll find out.
