I remember the George Perles scandals a textbook example of what happens when you throw character out the window recruiting. I wonder if MSU sports attendance gets hurt or endowments drop off and the athletic department is no longer self supporting will they call to cancel football? They cut the cancer out of the football program but Nassar feels different maybe a mortal wound. I hope not.

The reality is, this will change nothing at MSU. They'll fire a few more people, create some more policies and procedures, and everything will go on as normal. Attendance and endowments will go up as the diehard fans and boosters stand behind the program even more fervently, like an 'us against the world' mentality.

Only have to look as far as Penn State, and more recently Baylor, as prime examples. Everybody said Baylor was dead, but the Baylor 'community' was defiant, and the new football coach has rebounded quickly with the #16 rated recruiting class in the country.

Yet to be seen if Dantonio and Izzo will be forced out, but they will certainly not go willingly.

Baylor should have gotten the death penalty.

I'm a longtime resident of the Lansing area too, and I agree with ETough - the Sparties will circle the wagons and blame U-M or anyone but themselves as much as possible. Nothing will change - too much $$$ at stake for that.

NCAA won't do anything too severe. They know that athletics at schools like MSU are what 100M+ businesses.

The big boys have athletic budgets of what 100 - 200M?

EDIT: MSU is 127M for FY 2017/8.

RE: O/T: Problems deepen at MSU
Every single coach at Baylor, including the S&C coach, has be rehired, except for Briles himself. His son Kendal Briles, who was knee deep in the mess, and had previous NCAA recruiting problems, was quickly hired by the slimy Lane Kiffin. FAU had a good year, and he already got a big promotion this year as the OC at Houston.

Business as usual.

That is true. In sports, if you win you will not be unemployed for long. Bruce Pearl (hoops) is the exception. NCAA came down hard on him.

Maybe where MSU faces immediate problems is in the credit markets, which are completely different ball of wax.

In case anyone is curious, MSU has almost 1B in long term debt.

I liked the Twitter post that someone made that maybe Chuck Bullough wishes he had stayed at EMU another week.

Trying to figure out what will happen in E. Lansing is like trying to guess who will win the 2020 World Series.

Trying to predict events too far down the line is fraught with danger.

Understood. Did Chuck Bullough make a mistake going back to MSU if who knows there could be a coaching change?

RE: O/T: Problems deepen at MSU
At the HUGE risk of sounding insensitive. one thing needs to be mentioned. This latest rape accusation occurred 3 years ago. It may have indeed happened as the victim now feels more empowered and secure in reporting it. It is true, however, these situations portend huge payouts from a government institution that has deep pockets. It creates an environment where some "victims" are falsely trying to secure a spot at the pay window.

I find it disconcerting the victim in this case did not file criminal charges against the players, instead opting to file only a civil suit against the University. If her version of the MSU response is true, then by all means she has a claim of damages. Yet I would feel more confident of her claim had she also pursued criminal charges against her rapists.

Just my opinion.

For those who think David Jesse is biased against EMU, just reporting our problems, here is his report on MSU:

Of course the conspiratorial could say he is biased against 'Green Teams..." Lol.

Dear Friends,
As far as Michigan State doing just fine, to support that, it was reported in the paper the other day that their enrollment has jumped to a new record for the coming school year. People just don't pay attention to, or care, what has been going on there, for some time now.
