RE: Official Game Thread: @ Wofford
The wonderfully frustrating thing about this ETSU team for me is the fact that I can't play my usual pregame team comparison, "this player matches up with this player" and so on. I can't engage in best game vs best game speculation. The beginning of last night's game is a perfect example. Wofford was getting every rebound, the BUCS seemed to be ignoring Forbes as he implored them to take the ball inside where Wofford had no one to stop them and Wofford should have been up by double figures in the first 3 minutes. Instead they are only up by 4. And then the grinding began and it was the home game with Mercer all over again. Grind, grind, grind. "I'm sorry, gentlemen, your time is up." I am at the point that, at least in the SOCON, we may not ever see a best game vs best game because this team won't let you have your best game. That isn't to say we won't have a loss or two (though I am so close to wanting to say it), but those losses would have to involve circumstances that I can't begin to imagine right now.

I know you can't count chickens and all that, but we really ought to be 16-0 when we hit Greensboro on the 12th. Citadel, Samford, Chattanooga and VMI up .

Need UNCG to drop a game somewhere. As well as we are playing, they're only one game back as we held serve in the home contest.

Not saying the Bucs can't beat them, they can, it's just tough to be a good team three times in the same season

They beat Mercer on the road by 19 and Mercer was at FULL strength. They beat Furman on the road at FULL strength - Sibley was injured in 2nd half and played 23 minutes with 4/10 shooting. They beat Samford on the road by 18 as nearly everybody has. Samford is not good with or without Walker. And now they beat Wofford on the road by double digits and Jackson isn’t Jabbar. But feel free to keep making excuses for opponents. Fact is during this win streak only one game has been less than 8. Why didn’t you mention beating the 2nd place team by 10 - at full strength?

I'm just glad now that Mercer is out of the way and Wofford, Samford, and Furman need to come to Johnson City. With 9 games to go, anything and everything can happen though. In my opinion, I feel that the biggest threat still on the schedule is the road game at UNCG.

Having said that now, I've probably jinxed them to loosing to UTC or VMI.

We had a nice road trip down and I agree that the arena is nice. The 4 video boards in each corner, the lighting (I wear a visor at FH to better see the floor) and the huge concourse area before you go into the court are great, And the building is very prominent from the outside so there's no mistaking where you're going for the event.
You have to practically walk the campus at some of these schools to find the basketball arena.

I was very disappointed with the parking. We did arrive close to game time but NO ONE was on the street or near the lots. We ended up at the rear of an overcrowded lot in an illegal spot. And I won't complain about getting out of FH after seeing my life pass in front of me waiting to get out of that lot!

And I don't know if it was visible on TV but there were a BUNCH of empty seats in the lower level - corporate or big donors probably.

Solid game all the way around. The hustle play by Mlain was great. I will say I though the Wofford announcers did a good job giving our boys credit. They really talked the Bucs up. I like the analogy they used "The Bucs are like a boa constrictor. They keep squeezing and squeezing until you just give up". Thought that comment is very appropriate.

Watched the replay when i got back and I agree. They talked very highly of us and loved the boa constrictor analogy

I mentioned this at the start of the season, Jalen McCloud has that “it” factor. He was solid again last night with 16 points. He has quietly had an all league season. In conference play, he is 10th in scoring and is leading the league in three point shooting percentage at .571.

He is good. His stats at TX Southern last year do not seem accurate.

No reason to think that they're not accurate. At Texas Southern Jalan went from being a part time player out of conference to a team leader in conference. Look at the leap that he made last year between OOC and in conference numbers:

Out of Conference: 16.7 min., 4.8 ppg, .333 FG%, .214 from 3 (9-42), .730 FT% (19-26),
In the Conference: 25.4 min., 11.4 ppg, .488 FG%, .375 from 3 (18-48), .903 FT% (65-72)
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/pla...oud-1.html
Jalan's numbers in conference at Texas Southern are similar to his ETSU performance.

This year he's made a similar though less extreme improvement in conference:
24.2 min., 11.2 ppg, .465 FG%, .130 3pt% on 0.2 makes, .735 FT%
29.4 min., 14.8 ppg, .519 FG%, .581 3pt% on 2.0 makes, .769 FT%

Balanced article about Wofford game at Mid Major Madness emphasizing Bradford's contributions in that game and for the season I especially enjoyed Coach Young's rationale for sending their smallest player to jump ball with Peter. And his quote at the end should be posted in the BUC's locker room.

That was the lead in the Upstate story I posted. But yeah, he's right.

Coach Young is correct that banners aren't hung in January.

But when the table was set (home court, good crowd, new arena) his team looked pretty pedestrian against the Bucs.
