So Much For The C-USA Tournament In Norfolk Anytime Soon
Pilot Article

The MEAC is going to extend for three more years. I had really hoped with Hampton going to the Big South that the MEAC would move and open Scope up for C-USA.

Norfolk will never be considered as long as the conference refuses to split up the men and women's programs. Our best hope is Charlotte.

Maybe once this Frisco tournament fails miserably, they'll be convinced to split it up.

I actually think Charlotte would be a great location. As it relates to CUSA in Hampton Roads however, if the MEAC moved, Scope could host the men, and the women could be at the Ted or NSU or VWC. With the MEAC staying, 2K1 has a legit point. It aint happening.

And the women should just take bids from CUSA schools to host it like the CAA used to do. If you think you have a top team, pay up and have the championship on your own floor.

If Scope had been an option I think Norfolk would have had a shot with The Ted for the women's tournament. Honestly, for as many people are going to show up for the women's tournament they could probably host it in the big ballroom at The Main while the men play at Scope or The Ted for that matter. It would not look any dumber than the tournament at Atlantis.

What about the Hampton Coliseum and either the Ted, CNU, or W & M as the Women's location? Oh wait that would take regional cooperation...eff that 03-nutkick

I still think the best way would be for the top 8 teams to play in the tournament, and the higher seed hosts. Makes the regular season actually mean something

Solution: Let's join the MEAC!

They have an autobid each year (though our past results in a 1-bid league will not ensure future performance)

:)

I agree, except I don't like the idea of leaving teams out. We do not have enough fan interest or a tight enough footprint to draw a respectable crowd at any neutral site. I say let the top half host round one the bring the winners together at the top seed's arena. Just would really suck if one of the schools that play in a high school gym won the league.

I'm completely on board for playing at the higher seeded teams arena. This neutral site stuff just doesn't work with our geography. It looks depressing & bush league on TV.

Norfolk would be a terrible place to hold the tournament. Nobody would show up aside from ODU. Charlotte and Dallas would be the best 2 places for attendance as they are drivable for half the conference and major air hubs for the other half. They should do home sites for the higher seeds through the quartefinals and rotate the Final 4 between Dallas and Charlotte for any chance of success.

I tend to agree. Though I think Nashville could work too. I would say that Norfolk would be just as good or better than El Paso.

Agree. Only issue I have with Nashville is it isn't a hub and it is expensive and time consuming to get there from outside driving range.

Let's be real: Unless you are the host school, a family member of a player/coach, or one of maybe 100 fans from each school, nobody is going to the CUSA Tournament anyway. We are a conference of convenience with each member looking for the next flight out. I'm much more concerned with the tournament not being on anyone's campus, all the schools being there, and closeish to Norfolk than I am it being some grand financial success for the conference. I realize close to Norfolk is a reach since we are a geographical outlier so count me in on Team Nashville.
