I'm just wondering if he wants guys who will not have to be coddled all of the time and doesn't want a bunch of parents telling him how to coach.

He is recruiting them. Lomax was his priority until he whiffed. Then he switched to Harris as his priority. So all the "they are too much drama" bs, is nothing but BS.

Also, all higher ranked kids are high maintenance. Rose wasn't from Memphis but he had his "hanger-ons". Tyreke wasn't from Memphis but wasn't his brother with him all the time?

There is no excuse for Tubby’s recruiting failures.

No good ones. The one deal that burns me the most is the so called point guard he signed last year. Martin's gonna kill himself cause Rhodes can't play Div 1. His class was rated good for quantity ... Not quality. And he wiffs on Lomax and Harris with lots of PT to offer next season. It's early ... Maybe he pulls a rabbit ... But if I had to bet ... 04-chairshot

He tried to prime us with the Memphis can't expect good recruits excuse.

And then he proceeded to live it out for us in real time.

As of now, we have no 'good' recruits for 2018.

Looks like Tubby drove over to Cordova to watch Tyler Harris tonight.

The talk is the Tub has really cranked up the recruitment of Harris, he has been calling more often and going to games more often. Seems someone has let him know his job is on the line.

I can agree with that. The Tub's plan of retiring and leaving the program in the hands of the most worthless AC in all of college basketball is in jeopardy.

I will continue to say, the fastest, easiest, cheapest way to get rid of the Tub is to fire his worthless son, pay off his contract instead of paying off the Tub's contract. The Tub will quit as fast as he can.

That's crazy talk! Only a very few years since 1973 has Memphis not had Memphis players, and even then we had a couple. We would not have the program we have without Memphis players

John Kilzer

Otis Jackson

And even the final four team without any Memphis players had 2

Where did you even come up with this idea?

Kilzer was from Jackson, TN. Went to Jackson Central Merry. Derrick Phillips was from St. Louis.

But I am missing the days when we had a lot of Memphis kids on the team.

The mistake is that he obviously didn't make all of them feel like they were top priority. He put one egg in the basket and got none, instead of going after the whole loot. He should have focused on all three.

Its not like he has to try that hard to make these appearances. Want to see a high quality recruit? Just hop in the car and take the short drive over. Fantastic recruiting possibilities have literally been handed to him here at Memphis. He just gas to make the effort to take advantage.

Someone in marketing must be aware of that. I just got a pic of Martin in email for Cincy game.

And the tagline was #3 Jeremiah Martin Memphis Native l Junior

Yet, sooner or later these guys have to land somebody, anybody, from this area. There has to he a 'coach 'em up' Tubby type player in the area. Right? So I'm thinking 2018 is the year.

Getting an area player is one thing. Getting one of the many elite players in the Memphis area is apparently out of Tubby's pay grade. Yes I said "pay grade." Thus far he's a $30,000 coach.

Probably wouldn't even have to payoff much of Saul's contract. Most AC's are on an annual contract - 2 years tops. His contract probably expires in April.

Minor point, but the assitsant's contracts usually run from July 1st to June 30th.

RE: Is 2018 the year the recruiters @ Team Tubby get a Memphis area player?
Tubby personally does seem to have cranked up the heat on Tyler over the past few weeks. I believe Frank and Tubby both have mentioned that recently.

Antonio Anderson was on J&J again yesterday. AA is disappointed in the state of things. He's Team Penny full-bore at this point. He told the story that he, CDR, and a couple of other former players texted a staff member last summer to offer help in recruiting. They never heard anything back. For the record, it would actually be illegal for AA or any former player to recruit players. But I think this is where Tubby fails. He plays by the literal book. He knows it would be illegal. But there is this whole world of fringe area. The staff member should have replied. The staff member should have gotten the players involved in other ways that don't involve direct contact. The staff member could have tried to establish plausible deniability and gave them the green light. Instead, they ignore and avoid.

AA did go on to say that he believes Tubby could get it done with the right staff. And that if he made some changes this summer, it's not too late for Tubby to have success here. But he says Penny could get it done quickly.

He also retold the story about being told he would have to buy tickets to the Tigers-L'ville game this year, which is bizarre.

True, that's the fiscal year. And seems to fit most contracts. It just seems that there is a lot of AC turnover that happens before July every year.

True, they can leave. But if we payoff/fire, we would owe to the end of the contract.
