Firing the coach as he walks into the locker room is the definition of dumpster fire.
He didn't even make it to the locker room...storage room adjacent of the field. Wow.

aTm is going to change coaches;
OMyth is a dumpster fire right now;
LSU hired freakin' Orgeron as their HC;
Auburn => who knows with that fanbase;
Bama => well, Saban's been beating everyone and if you beat him once every 5 years and you are under the age of 40 (which Norvell is), you're going to be the 'next great head coach'.

Misstake may be watching Mullen go somewhere else.

Throw in the fact that he has ties to the region, I think Norvell would likely take the offer.

Yeah Jimbo is sure gonna be nothing to deal with at A&M. Come on...how much whiskey did you drink before writing that?

Same response.

My advice to Norvell.

Pass on crapfests like Arkansas, Mississippi or Tennessee. Not suggesting we are a better job, those schools pay more, are higher profile and have more football history, even if Mississippis has been buttressed by SEC teet suckling, segregation, and rampant cheating.

Reason is you can do better. Wait on a Florida, a Nebraska, in spite of the current difficulties there, a Texas A and M, a UCLA, a Michigan etc...unless he believes you cannot jump from a Memphis to a USC, that you need an intermediary stop. Don't think so. Hold out young man. Take the short money at an Arkansas and end up with a less than Urban Meyer career, more of a Derek Dooley result.

Try reading a bit more comprehensively before posting at 2:26 in the morning. I am not saying that Arkansas is the greatest job on earth, but that for Norvell this is probably the most attractive the Arkansas job can get. The competition from other schools is not as difficult as it was when Auburn, Florida, LSU, Alabama all won national championships within a 5 year period. In case you forgot, Les Miles is no longer in the SEC, nor is Urban Meyer.

And since you're most likely a young, single person, you most likely discount the importance of a spouse's input into the decision. Norvell's wife has family in NW Arkansas and that's a really important factor into the decision to take another job or not.

Also, how sure are you that Jimbo is going to aTm?

We are a better job, if you want to win. No one can win at those places anymore.

Eh, by all accounts he was fired two weeks ago. Players were literally out at bars after they lost celebrating him being fired. It was just "official" after the Missouri loss.

No surprise to me when he left and how he left. Norvell seems a little different, I still think he leaves but I don't think it's a given. I think Memphis's AD has a chance to keep him but it's going to take a lot. If we want to keep our good young coaches we need to over pay them by a fair amount or eventually get into a power 5. Until then Memphis will be a stepping stone instead of a landing spot. My best advice would be to enjoy it as much as possible while we can.
Norvell and his wife both genuinely like Memphis and enjoy living here. You are correct that it is very different than the Fuente situation. Norvell is not going to take a job because it is P5 but he has a list of schools he would be interested in. Good news is that his "dream job" is not currently open and won't be this offseason...

Bruce Feldman Verified account @BruceFeldmanCFB

Ex #Arkansas coach Bret Bielema and the Razorback Foundation have agreed to an $11.935 MILLION buyout. He will be paid out monthly thru 2020.

11 conference wins in 5 seasons sure is expensive.

Lucky for the Hogs they have a river of P5/SEC cash flowing through their program.

If we had of gotten into Big 12 then we could have cleaned up locally recruiting and with Norvell secured for years to come we could have been knocking on the door of top 10 each year.
