BIRMINGHAM, AL -- During the 2002-03 academic year, the Southeastern Conference had 17 student-athletes selected first-team Verizon Academic All-America, the most of any conference in the nation. In a scaled value system, the SEC also had more points than any conference in the country.
Not only did the SEC have 17 first-team Academic All-Americas in 2002-03, but also placed 13 on second-teams and five on third-teams, giving the league a total of 35 student-athletes honored.
