Owls leading 19-16 with 11:48 left in the first half.

Tech's good ol' boy color commentator warns of the "fool's gold" of Tech passing around the perimeter and shooting just 3's. After a hot streak gets players thinking about 3s, "then you go cold and you git yourself in trouble."

LaTech takes advantage of Owls' suddenly sloppy play and poor shooting (1-for 13 FGs!!) with an 11-2 run. Owls down 21-27 with 7:19 left in the half.

Lots of peripheral passing, indecision and more passing. Finally a drive ... loses the ball in the lane, but it bounces off a Bulldog ... so Rice gets it with 1 second on the shot clock!

Inbounds to Harrison. Long 3 is GOOD!! But video review negates it. Bummer.

Nearly 5 minute scoreless streak, all too common with this team, turns Owl leading by 6 into Owls trailing by 5.

Austin playing a lot more confident and active these last two games. He's been our quickest biggest flying out to the wing.

Owls down 28-34 at the half.

Last play was emblematic of the final 10 minutes: Adams with the ball for the final shot of the half ... waits for 8 seconds left ... then scrambles around, can't get any open passes and jacks up a long airball.

Connor "kuh-SHAW" leads Rice with 9 points. Meyer has 6, Mency & Adams 5 each.

Connor kuh-Shaw is better than Connor Cashew, which he's called by basically every conference poster because of autocorrect.

RE: MBB @LaTech
Dismal start to the 2nd half ... what else is new?

Cashaw makes a nifty drive, but clanks the layup; two Owls converge on a rebound, and knock it out of bounds; Osbourne (I think it was he), goes up for a jumper, and it's blocked as a tie ball.

Fortunately, LaTech is little better. It's 30-38 at the first media time out.

Two Lester drives lead to 5 Rice points: On one, he dishes back to Myer, who made a nifty layup. On the other, he passed out to Mency who made a wide-open 3.

LaTech time out.

36-40 with 13:36 left.

47-61 with 5:03 left.

Lots of clanks and airballs.

54-69 ... thanks to a long Osborne 3 at the buzzer that officials allowed.

Sigh.

Hard to believe we’re this much worse than everyone in our awful conference. Harrison, Martin, Myers, Adams were a top recruiting class last year. I know our frshman class and grad transfers were kinda thrown together (I think osbourne and hunter will be contributors) but we shouldn’t be losing by 20 to a bad LaTech team. Not sure what it is. Seems like mental weakness at this point. Stupid mistakes. Poor shooting when wide open.

This season seems to be a bit of a lost cause but I think the key will be to see how the off-season unfolds.

There is talent on this team but we're not playing with confidence. We're probably also way too tight - we need to have more fun out there.

Please don’t give up on the season yet.

If we can get that confidence going, and sustain our intensity a little longer, then we are going to win some games and be a tough out for anyone in Frisco.

We’ve played “pretty good” at home in CUSA so far and next week’s home games against International and Atlantic are a real opportunity to make a move.
