7 penalties against WMU vs 3 against CC by the end of the game. Tigers scored 2-3 pp goals, it was effective for them.

that was a ****ing frustrating game to watch. Also WMU needs to figure out their cameras for broadcasting these games on NCHC.tv. I won't consider a full season sub until that stuff is fixed.

Had we won this game we would have taken first place in the NCHC. Very frustrating to lose to a team we really should dominate.

Not having guys like Allison and Conrad is showing and it will be evident the rest of the way. Murray has to learn how to keep this team disciplined, a big issue since he’s been the coach here, it killed us tonight but it goes both ways with crap officiating

Penalties, penalties, penalties...most of them stupid! Chance to take over 1st place and we pissed it away. So tired of that kind of play. No way we should have blown that game against the last place (but yet still talented) team. Very frustrating.

Killing off 7 penalties to 3 is going to have an effect on a teams energy.. coupled with Friday’s constant penalty kill... are they playing undisciplined or getting absolutely jobbed by officiating?

Thought Murray's post game comments were interesting.....something like: "ridiculously stupid penalties...too many guys playing to their individual agendas". I'm not a hockey expert but getting tired of watching short-handed hockey against teams we should beat.

If you look at the overall stats this year, it's hard to make a case that Western has been discriminated against in terms of penalties. I didn't feel this way through the first game-and-a-half this weekend. I think it was a young crew that preferred to err against Murray's Broncos. But as they say about certain horses, especially Broncos, this is a team that can be "high spirited" at times.

I'll admit that when I see a little slew foot or a slash our team commits, it often registers as less of a problem to me than it should. We ought to play a clean game, and we are certainly skilled enough to. It's a problem though, especially to the refs and our opponents, and these cheap actions eventually add up to real penalties. Often it's a horseshit penalty that's called, but the best refs call make-up calls to keep the game as fair as they can. There was too much needless chippyness this weekend though, and it eventually cost us. Credit also goes to CC, who played incredibly hard in the 3rd.

Now I'm thinking about SCSU and the loss of Conrad and Allison. I'm thinking about the NCHC officials in the office as well, and their refusal to suspend #22 Jimmy Schuldt, after his head check on Conrad. We play SCSU at Lawson in about 3 weeks, and there was a lack of action regarding the major head check to Colt Conrad, which resulted in Conrad missing more than three games. Because of the NCHC's inaction, it looks like #22 Jimmy Schuldt may face a tough couple of games, although I hope this isn't the case and we can stay disciplined. We lost 2 of our top 3 scorers though, so it's going to take a few games to re-establish our flow.

A split for the weekend, we could have and should have done better.

Are the Broncos w/o Wade Allison, Colt Conrad, & Aidan Muir really that much better than CC? They were trailing late in both games and managed to come out of the weekend w/ a split. I think that's how it will go the rest of the way w/o some very important players.

If they play smart, clean hockey... YES. Friday we were skating circles around them 5-5... but spent so much time killing penalties we started to get worn out and allowed CC to stick around... Sounds like Saturday was much the same but were on the penalty kill all night long...

We are getting some young guys some serious ice time right now... that's GREAT going forward but these guys need to start playing better team hockey and less me hockey...

Losing Allison isn't just losing his scoring... its his leadership, and work ethic out there too... also he's one of the best assist guys out there... Its a HUGE loss this season.

I was not at the game nor was i able to watch it on the internet but we scored a bunch of goal,s , enough to win anyways but i also saw tweets etc commenting on our turn overs and resulting in goals. Moving forward we need to clean that up cause we ain't going to score as much as we have in the past. There is more than one way to get it done and we are going to have to lock it down defence wise and try to out work them to gut out some wins till Muir Conrad and Frank get back to help shore things up a bit. It has been a good ride so far this season we might just have to temper our expectations a bit now.

CC always seems to give us trouble. I don't know what the problem is with them, but we've had issues with them over the years.

Yeah I know, we've had some big injuries this season. But we're in the battle for first place this season and they're in last place. That says something about the talent level.

When we have double the number of penalties they have that says we're either getting jobbed by the officials are we're playing stupid. From Coach Murray's comments it's more the second one than the first.

One thing about the NCHC I've noticed, the historic top programs play disciplined hockey. Penalties are like turnovers in football, they suck the momentum and energy out of teams. They're absolute killers and it shows up late in the 3rd period when you need legs and wind.

Cost us 1st place in the NCHC in a game that was eminently winnable.

On to Omaha.

Sorry to inform you but the historic programs are given preferential treatment and that was the truth. I was at the SCSU game and Conrad was given a cheap blind side hit to the head it happened right in front of us and the one ref. The ref did not even call a penalty it was after about 1 min of play they finally had a meeting and since Conrad had really struggled to get off the ice and was laying on the bench they finally decided to give him a five min penalty. No game misconduct just five mins. The commisioner of the league came to the second game and reveiwed it and said it did not deserve a suspension. Why not it was a direct hit to the head breaking a kids jaw. I will tell you why Bob Mot... is team USA head coach and makes the NCHC look good ,Jimmy Fing Schultz is there captain and chosen one and it hurt his chances of becoming a hobey baker winner. We can't have that. The next game Lee is rushing for the puck on a break away their goalie comes rushing out of the crease at least 25-30 feet colides with Lee but Lee is given a 5 min major and game ejection. Wonder how that happens.
You can say undiciplened and some of them are but the reffing is poor and constantly wants to error on the side of cation . its usually the far away ref making the call cause the close one see,s the play and knows its not a penalty but somebody fell so someone must be guilty so the up goes his arm. I watch loads of hockey in many different leagues and is the poorest on calling everything even stuff they don't see. It is better than leagues that don't call nothing but still frustrating to watch. USHL hockey seem to be the closest to calling it close but still letting them play and remembering the fans show up to watch hockey not the refs.
