MBB: Drexel at Dukes, Sat. 4pm (MadiZone)
Dukes and Dragons share the basement of the CAA each at 1-6. Drexel heads into the Convo on a 4-game losing streak. Like the Good Guys, they have exactly 1 win over the last month. Ouch!
Using Sagarin's as a basis, the Dukes should open around 4 or 5 pt favorites. Would love to see the Dukes put a full 40-minute game together to build on the comeback win Thursday night, but I'll believe it when I see it.
For those watching at home, enjoy Curt's call (as usual) via MadiZone.
Let's get out of the basement with a win. Being cold and dark might be perfect for the football Dukes, but being in a cold, dark, smelly basement in the dead of winter for MBB sucks.
Go Dukes!!
Prediction: Dukes are down 17 with 2 minutes left, but scrap back to take a lead by 1 pt with 3 seconds left as Drexel misses 10 free throws and the Dukes hit 6 3-pointers. However, a technical foul is called on a student manager at the end of the bench for looking at a ref the wrong way. Drexel misses the first FT, but hits the 2nd one to tie it. Drexel then brings the ball in and makes a 60 foot shot bounced off the top of a teammate's head. Drexel wins by 3 at the buzzer. Later, in the postgame presser, the Drexel HC talks about how they have worked tirelessly on that play bouncing off one of their guy's heads in last shot situations. The JMU student manager is seen walking off gesturing to the 244 JMU fans in the Convo and saying "my fault, my fault".

People have seemed to have fun with Rowe's "my fault" admission, but I admire the fact he's willing to take personal responsibility in a world full of blaming he, she or it "out there." Great for tv ratings and big salaries for lawyers but it doesn't make one's life work.
Thursday's win changes the season. JMU already had talent, now they have confidence. Dukes win 73-63.

Yep- Rowe has been very supportive of the players in the program (Kids he recruited and kids he didn't). He's never thrown anyone under the bus, and never made excuses (we're too young, we're not athletic enough, we've got some kids coming next year who will make us better, etc). You know all the stuff Brady used to say when he was the coach and the team lost or was having a bad season.

I believe there was some confidence built Thursday and playing less than 48 hours after a good win like that should be a positive. If these guys could string some wins together, confidence will build. This team plus confidence is dangerous in this years CAA. We have already played the best teams this league has to offer. We led all of them. I am hoping the education of the first half of the season will lead to success in the second half.
This years CAA is good not great from top to bottom. It makes every game both winnable and loseable.

Just one minor point where I'm not sure I agree- IMO JMU has proven they compete with the middle of the conference (Hofstra, W&M, Elon, even Delaware who I think is really bottom). I think Towson, COC, and Northeastern are the top of the conference. The Dukes have to prove that they can compete with these teams.
Win today- go on the road and win at UNCW and they will have a lot of confidence going into a road game next Saturday at COC and that would be a benchmark if this team keeps winning.

You opened as favored by 5.5 and as soon as people bet it moved to 4.5.

The Dukes have a one game winning streak and are officially en fuego.
Also they have won 8 in a row against The Dragons who have been a terrible 33-80 over the last 4 years. Everybody beats up on the Dragons. I miss the days when Bruiser Flint roamed the sideline and spewed F bombs while executing the crotch grab dozens of times per game.
JMU 69
Drexel 68
Gotta win at home against the team that is tied for last place.
This is the CAA pillow fight of the year with RPI #296 JMU vs RPI # 256 Drexel.

So Drexel should be favored then given their RPI compared to JMUs.

Maybe it is just me , but it feels like Sammy Mojica has played at Drexel for 6 or 7 years.

Wilson looks good. Nice to seen him get some productive minutes. Showing good bounce for his size.

Tied up with 344 in first. Not great basketball, but a pretty good game

Wilson and Banks look like the only guys for JMU that didn't just roll out of bed.

Not much separation between these two teams in the first half. Somebody has to be last place.
We probably won’t see Mosley go 0-fer from downtown again in the 2nd half. Get a couple of those to fall and the Dukes can protect home court.

The team needs a major wake up call at halftime. Red Bull or coffee would help too. Phillips seems determined to make a point that if he is to get out of foul trouble it means standing around.
