I believe he said he was going to guard against building it up too much for the team. He is fine with the rest of us/fans going as nuts as we want. Big crowd, lots of noise, GO ODU!
Ahh. I only saw the quote. Thanks.

Totally agree. In fact, it might even be too much for just one game. I probably would have done the statues and the shirts on different nights, to get return visits... but hey, beggars cant be choosers. Nice effort for sure.

RE: Game atmosphere SOLUTIONS
OK, for big games designate an alumni honorary captain from the team's past. For Thursday, I'd do a Skype interview with Bazemore (maybe 1 minute) wishing the team good luck, exhorting the crowd to get into the game, and show it either before or after the anthem. Let it be a surprise. Others who'd be doable thanks to Skype, Frank, Lee, Hodge, Valdas, Drew, etc. Frankly, you make a connection with those alums, you get the crowd psyched, but you don't overdo it. 3-4 games a year. If the player is local, intro them, have them take part in player introductions and sit on the bench. Otherwise, it's a phone call, 1-minute video, maybe even less.

I like the idea, but recording it would probably be better with the technical difficulties we have been having this season.

Yes, record the Skype message and play at game. He doesn't have to be live; might even give ODU an oppportunity to throw in a clip from Baze's/whomever's past exploits

Also a great idea jumpshooter. I like it. A few years ago they had Baze come in via Skype for one of those before the season meet the coaches type events and it was pretty cool

Great idea. Connecting the current students and players to the past, and evoking some nostalgia for the rest of us could really help to amplify the historical significance of our program, and remind fans that we collectively have something to be proud of, and something worth maintaining.

fantastic idea. It wouldnt even be hard with todays technology. Have Alex Loughton send a message to the Monarch Nation to play at the Ted during the first time out.

RE: Game atmosphere SOLUTIONS
JMO but I think relegating students to the end zone has a negative overall impact on game atmosphere. I thought the atmosphere in general was better when students used to have premium seating at the Fieldhouse and Scope (I'm old). And remember the NIT run a couple years ago when people could sit wherever they wanted to? I watched Wisconsin play this weekend and their students ringed the court which produced a great atmosphere. Of course the risk with doing this is nobody or few show up but maybe they don't show up now because they have to sit in the end zone? Compensate the relocated boosters by adding a perk like F&B delivery to their seats like they do at MLB premium seating.

I have thought about this a lot, because I would prefer to see students in the first few rows along one side of the court, but I just don't think there is any way to pull it off at The Ted. If you ring the first few rows with students you run into a couple big problems.
1. There is no separation between the students and the high dollar donors. You want students to stand, and that will result in a bunch of big donors complaining that they have to stand.
2. We have a poor student turn out a lot of times. Having students in the first few rows around the court would make the place look empty and really hurt atmosphere when they do not fill the section.

Both points are spot on. My biggest concern is point #2. When we have down years, the stadium will look even worse. Arenas that have this seating seem to have great student turnout no matter how the team is doing. We obviously aren't there and may never be there.
