RE: FAU
Two conference road trips -- two conference road sweeps -- I love it. Charlotte on the road next week, and then it's time for a home sweep starting with Empty Sue. Let's go, Monarchs!

OK, roundball guys. When JJ mentioned looking at some "Junk" defenses, what kinds of defenses is he talking about?

The most common "junk" defenses are the box and 1 and the triangle and two...combinations of MTM and zones. Some of BT's defenses that morhed from zone to MTM and back to zone again were considered junk defenses.

Ahh, so. Thanks BB78. I take it you don't normally see those defenses very often.

RE: FAU
Some interesting notes from the box score: we only made three 3-pointers. However we had 30 (THIRTY!!) free throw attempts compared to their 11. So it sounds like we took the ball inside often instead of relying on the outside shot. Most importantly we made 20 of those 30 FTs which is good enough in this game. Would like to see us consistently shoot 70% but that's our ceiling I think.

The point spread among our starters was also very nice. 17, 13, 12, 10, 9 by our starters. Hard to hold them all down. Love that Green got 7 off the bench, that's big for us.

FAU's game plan seemed to include putting ODU in position to lose the game from the FT line. They fouled all over the court.

I loved seeing Green again more actively contributing on the court. When the bench produces 10-12 pts rather than 4-5 pts, ODU has a bigger margin of variance leading to victory.

Ahh, so. Thanks BB78. I take it you don't normally see those defenses very often.

They are only effective if an opponent depends on a single player to carry the team...you sacrifice defense everywhere else to either deny the target player from initialing the offense, taking the initial shot or denying him the ball. It's not effective against well balanced teams.

They are sometimes throw in for a short-term shock-effect if the opponent is starting to go on a run.

Denying Caver the ball would seem to be what JJ was anticipating.

If that was their coaches game plan I’m hoping he’s not long for this conference
