So our Dragons off a not very good week will play the Towson Tigers. Towson is one of the favorites this season and so far have been a bit over the place in conference. They are coming off a beat down of W&M in VA. This is a slow paced physical team. We did well against CofC who plays this style but this does not feel like a good spot with it a normal break before. We have had issues defending the post and this game scream trouble there. Hopefully Stretch stays out of foul trouble, but unfortunately I think Towson is going to pound it right through him and it will be a long night.

RE: Towson
I'm going to add in the Kurk Lee in Baltimore factor. Drexel will be Drexel for most of the game and will trail by 20 in the 2nd half. Lee goes crazy and scores 18 points in a 10 minute stretch and cuts the Towson lead to 2. Lee finishes the game with 32 points, but still not enough to save the defenseless Dragons and beat his dad's team.
Towson 101
Drexel 95
Drexel is a 13 point dog tonight. If I were a betting man, I'd definitely take Drexel with the points. Drexel may be bad, but they always seem to play hard enough to keep the score in check, and like I said above, Lee will make sure that Drexel doesn't get blown out in his hometown.

It looks like Towson is favored by 13 tonight. Until we show any sign of life on the road, it is hard to argue with that.

I'm interested in seeing if we can give up more than 1.32 PPP on defense, or if that's like the value of c.

http://www.oddsshark.com/stats/team/bask...caab/14941 says Drexel is 5-10-1 against the spread. Counting the tie as half a win and half a loss, Drexel's against the spread winning percentage is worse than their regular winning percentage.

Drexel had a higher pre-season ranking than they've performed. They barely beat some bad teams at home this year, which may be a factor in why they've performed poorly against the spread. I thought that 13 was a really large spread for Drexel since they don't usually get blown out, even with their poor record.

I'm sure it's not something that he's proud of since it meant that Drexel got slaughtered, but congrats to Dan10 for accurately predicting the 22 point spread.

RE: Towson
we went down for the game. what stood out to me was how much bigger and more athletic they were. they probably should've scored on every possession with the mismatches they had. refs called everything but it didn't matter. they got every rebound they wanted, every shot they wanted, and totally shut us down with whatever defense they wanted. even demir...who i still think is really skilled...showed he's going to have a ceiling unless he hits the weights.
for some reason we keep pushing the pace even though we clearly don't have the horses to match up. the game was lost after a 3 point deficit became 16 in the last 2 minutes of the first half. lee tried to push and either took bad shots or turned the ball over. towson took advantage of every extra possession.
harper got a t for being harper. Spiker should park him until he loses the attitude.

While I don't disagree about Harper, he complains to the refs pretty much after every time he drives and doesn't get a foul, that technical was a cumulative team effort starting with Tramaine complaining about a dubious traveling call on the first possession. The complaining continued up until Harper was T'd up. Spiker said after the game that "it's not part of our culture" but you see our guys complaining all the time. I think it was Metsox on twitter that mentioned the refs coming over and saying something to Jennings pretty early in the game. I don't think anyone will argue that these refs were good, but it is not going to get any better when players are chirping.

As far as us getting pushed around, you hate to think about next year after Stretch and Myles are gone. Hopefully Perry and Butler have been living in the weight room and are joined by Tadas, Demir, and Doles once the season is done.

Definitely not proud, but again this is the type of team we expect to struggle bad against. They are the polar opposite of us and they are actually decent. Our game plan for this game definitely wasnt great, but the players needs to stay composed. A team like Towson or CofC (& W&M for different reasons) are really just bad matchups for us unless we catch some major breaks. No need to get down. Just refocus on the next game

RE: Towson
I saw a tweet today from Drexel Men's BB that Samme is now #10 on the all-time steals list. He didn't have any last night so I'm not sure why they are just posting it now, but perhaps trying to keep things positive. The accompanying text in the tweet was "At this point, there is no chart Sammy Mojica isn't moving up on." The cynic in me immediately thinks, "well except the career winning percentage chart". But then thinking about it, there is nowhere for him (and Austin and Tyshawn) to go but up on that chart at least if you look at four-year guys in the D1 years of Drexel. At this point there is still a chance to pass Rodney and Mo, but they have to finish the rest of the regular season at 10-1 or go 9-2 and win 2 games in the CAA tourney or (and this is what we should probably hope for) go 8-3 and win 3 games in the CAA tourney.
The saddest part is that even if they won out at 20-0, they only other guy this class could pass is Tavon Allen and even he was around as a red shirt for the 29-7 season. Let that sink in, even with a twenty game win streak, this class would have the 3rd worst four-year stretch in the 45 years of Drexel D1 BB. I still have hope for Spiker turning thing back upward, but I hope he starts soon.

Thanks for the write-up.
I sparked at question for me. How much heads up to teams get as to who the refs will be? Is it something you could game plan on the tendencies of those refs.
I would guess its kept pretty much under wraps to prevent tampering and perhaps it would be a bad idea to let the refs affect how you game plan but the write-up made me curious if coaches at all consider the refs beforehand.

It's a good question. Pretty sure it's known at least a day prior since I was tipped off for one particular ref back in the day. I'll try and get that answered for you at JMU tomorrow.

You should only go as far as Hershey on the turnpike and come to the phantoms vs bears outdoor classic.
Go phantoms

It is a VERY good question. I know what you CAN do is you can look at Kenpom, if you had a sub, and see every game a ref HAS reffed this year, to get a feel for how many CAA games they do, or how many times we have seen them in the last couple of years. Its a rather under-used feature on the site.

Lol, you’re less cynical than I am, my first thought was anybody who plays starts moving up the charts unless they stand in place for 40 minutes.
As far as refs, I’d love to know what’s going on with this:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nc.../86470998/
Since that story, the Patriot, NEC, Ivy and Big South have joined the alliance.
