I would take any of these...Moton,Crean,Dooley and Mike Davis. Was originally on the Gottfried train but since more names have surfaced he is too much of a risk I think to take. Crean is the obvious choice, no baggage, no scandal, just a great coach who carries himself well, wins at a high level and runs a clean program.
Moton is a risk, as is any coach who has only done it at a lower division, but he certainly has had success.
We finally have some really good candidates that are interested in this job, thanks to this conferences allure, I just hope with the same search committee running the search who found Scottie Freaking Mo, we don't somehow screw this up.
There are more to our football issues than Mo. Go back and look at our recruiting classes under Ruff and see who those guys had offers from. That was a slow motion train wreck in the making. Love Ruff to death but the man wasn't recruiting an athlete that could play at the FBS level.
The drum I’ve been beating for what is it now? 3 Years? But there are a few certain users up here who are deluded and just want to blame Ruff and call me an idiot every time I present facts to back up every one of my claims.

Dude nobody takes you serious, you don’t have facts
I’ve told you these facts over and over for 3 Years. I’m not going to continue typing them out over and over cause you’re clearly too stupid to understand them, too stubborn in your narrative, or just don’t read the posts in general.

While I don't think "area" is nearly as big of a deal in hoops as football ---- from Assistant at Michigan State, to head coach at Marquette and Indiana he just screams MIDWEST to me. Especially considering his wife is the sister of the Harbaughs. But still close #2 to Forbes.
I do recall Dooley (#3) bringing in three (I think) Top 100 early signees to Greenville in one class. That was when they were football-only in C-USA, though, and thus more impressive when you realize it was CAA. But I might be wrong -- that was around 20 years ago and since not yet fully in C-USA, it was harder to keep up with ECU hoops. My memory I am sure is clouded.
The concerns about Moton (#4) only being a MEAC/CIAA guy are valid. But if you can obtain some decent ex-head coach, that bridges that in my opinion. Heck, if he could retain Perry and/or Wojchik, you have it right there.
I agree about Steve Forbes, he is probably my favorite name that I've seen, outside of Crean who I think is a pipe dream for ECU. He has a great resume and has ETSU rpi at 65 which is the highest of any of the candidates that we have mentioned. I watched them play Xavier to the wire this year, they were really well coached. The only question is if we can get him or if he would hold out for a bigger job.

I'm sure that, like Crean, his people are floating his name out to open coaching jobs and right now we are one of the few. As the season ends and more high profile jobs open up I think you'll see these guys take interest in other positions. That being said I do think we will be able to get some solid candidates from the low to mid-major ranks in large part due to being in the AAC and the exposure we get.
Because he is a clown who famously got drunk, called a cabdriver a sand######, then sued the hell out the immigrant cabbie and the kid valet who witnessed it all when the police came to ththe scene to drag him off...even threw in a loss of consortium claim in the suit that he could not get it up in the bedroom anymore due to being so troubled by the entire public debacle. He finally dismissed the suit after being mocked mercilessly. Ole Miss almost fired him in 2009 for it. A real shining moment.
