Gary Clark - Where Does He Stand All-Time?
I was pondering once Gary Clark finishes his Senior season where will he end up all-time with other Bearcat greats? Obviously, you can compare real numbers and there are intangibles that are harder to quantify. Objectivity vs. subjectivity. He also had aspects of his game early on that needed work. Remember how he would stand still dribbling with his back to the basket? He has definitely improved his game over the years and was always good on the defensive end. He does not have any All-American recognition but was named Second Team All-Conference (2016) and All-Rookie Team Conference (2015). It would seem he is in line for some level of All-Conference honors for this season. Here are some career numbers to ponder (Gary's current numbers and rank all-time vs. the player that I could readily find he is most closest to with rank all-time for each category):

Points
1,228 (30th) --- E. Hicks 1,231 (29th)

Boards
978 (6th) --- D. Jones 983 (5th)

Assists
239 (???) --- D. Flint 407 (7th)

Steals
138 (???) --- L. Banks 153 (7th)

Blocks
159 (5th) --- J. Jackson 219 (4th)

FG%
.523 (???) --- O. Robertson .535 (5th)

Games Played
121 (???) --- B. Brannen/L. Stokes/J. Maxiell/D. Vaughn/S. Thomas 129 (9th)

Games Started
119 (2nd) --- D. Vaughn 123 (1st)

He will continue to add to his career numbers and has a chance to make an impact for the conference title, conference tournament and NCAAT this year. He has a decent shot to finish near the Top 20 All-Time in scoring. He has some nice all-around numbers for his career that reflects his play on the court. He sure has been fun to watch especially this year.

I would also put Gary on the "All Time Good People" list for UC basketball players.

He seems like a good guy. He has been a solid player in the range of #20.

All things considered that is damn good.

I think I would place Gary on about on the same tier as Max, Hicks, Ruben, Brannen. As far as Mick guys go, he is probably the 2nd most significant player to come through with Cash and Gates behind him.

High character guy. Tremendous work ethic. Never any trouble on or off the court. The kind of 4-year guy who epitomizes what it means to be a Bearcat. Work hard, get better, become a model for the younger guys on the team, and potentially look at making a paycheck with your athletic skills, your consistency, your unselfishness and your positive attitude. Gary can be frustrating at times because he could actually be better offensively than he is, but his defense, rebounding and team leadership qualities are off the charts. He is the centerpiece of this year's team, and if UC goes reaches some of its goals this season, Gary will be long remembered as one of the best to ever wear the Red and Black.

Significant, still probably have Lance Stephenson and Sean Kilpatrick ahead of Gary Clark... As far as production for the Cats, he'll probably be #1 of the Mick era.

Think SK gets the best single season under Mick, and Gary Clark gets the best 4 year career under Mick.

Looking at the rebounding record, Gary will wind up 3rd all time with ~1100 at the end of the season (the top two guys have 1250-1350).

Scoring wise Gary will finish 17-18th if he averages 10-11 points a game the rest of the season.

You could convince me of Sean - but lance?? He was a disappointment. Didn't make the team better, didn't even play particularly well. Most talented, sure. But that's it.

A big part of significant to me is being able to show recruits we have guys with long NBA careers, like it or not Lance is that guy. SK hopefully establishes himself too. I think significance includes a team getting to an elite 8, or the player becoming a NBA player etc. I'd love to see Gary Clark do it at the next level... his shooting has improved so much - 80%+ from the foul line.
