Why is it a joke? This is college football folks...coach is good, coach gets more money.

Looks like SMU paid their HC over 2 mil last year...so Kane is probably getting a 100% plus raise.

Man...how big of a difference does the early signing period make this year??

Lynch and Kane gone, which by all indications were big contributors to this class...if it was February, not sure we keep this class.

Major point here and I could not agree more.

And now he will hire a friend from Madison Wisconsin high school to fill a position.

In all seriousness though, there were enough firings this season, so there are lot of coaches available out there. Someone like Paul Haynes that got let go at Kent would fit in nicely as he DC IMO.

A - it will be tough for Carey to hire a solid replacement with just one year left on his contract. Would this alone warrant an extension? Probably get more interest in the spot otherwise he will promote from within.

B - do we lose some recruits now? Some players may have signed to play D for Kane and if they havent enrolled early they may chose another school with a release. Hopefully that won't be the case. This does happen all the time all over the country.

Wow I didn't realize Kane was only 34 Carey lost possibly his two best recruiters. And if you look and talk like Carey you need hot recruiters on your staff.

Could we even offer a raise to kane if we hired him as HC next year? I wonder what SMU will be paying him.

Probably a year or two ahead of schedule but they should consider Alex krutsch from that D2 or D3 team. There was an old thread about him. But I'd rather wait and bring him on next staff.

Isn't the most obvious/easiest move to replace Kane at DC is with Diersen?

Diersen is going to Smu with Kane

Talk about waiting to see if there are better candidates. Could have gotten a better option than Knowels that has some great recruiting ties over the years. Doesn't have much experience in the FBS.
