Yes, and when they change the name also I will be a fan of that team again.

My immigrant friend from London thinks Americans are really weird with the whole I'm German or Scottish or English or Italian thing. They don't consider those to be ethnic groups, only nationalities. If you are black and were born in Manchester and live in England you are English period nothing else. If your family immigrated from Italy to Finland and you are a Finnish citizen you are Finnish not Italian.

Not always. If you were captured by pirates and a specific skill the pirates needed you were impressed just like they did in the actual navies of the time. Bartholomew Roberts, better known as Black Bart, was impressed and Blackbeard impressed ships doctors and carpenters when he captured them.

Kidnapping was probably not the only felonious action pirates committed.

How soon until mascots like pirates and Vikings are deemed too promote unsavory behavior and thus should not be used as mascots in athletic events

I thought the Indians mascot was an actual player for the team, obviously years and years ago.

They were once formally known as the Cleveland Naps after player Napoleon Lajoie, and prior to that were informally known as the Indians (when their official name was the Cleveland Spiders) after outfielder Louis Sockalexis, a Native American. That's such a foreign concept to me; naming the team after a player. How are the Cleveland LeBron's doing this year?

Sockalexis died in 1913 and the Cleveland franchise didn't officially become the Indians until 1915, so nobody ever had the chance to find out if he was offended.

It's also noted that Sockalexis was an alcoholic, so I guess we're lucky that they aren't known as the Cleveland Drunk Indians.

There's going to be some P's off Dames. There's the Lady of Fatima, Lady of Lourdes, Lady of Guadalupe. Which one is ND referring to?
