Punching your ticket to Frisco: Battle for MBB Seeds 9-12
Plenty of attention is paid (rightfully so) to the conference’s top teams. Some of us, however, aren’t even sure our teams will make the field of 12 in Frisco.

This thread is for us.

Ground rules: stay .500 or better in conference play and avoid being mentioned by name in this thread!!

As the evening begins, six teams are below .500. Five have one win already (FIU, Charlotte, LATech, UTEP, Rice) while FAU is the only winless team at 0-3.

Usually 5 wins will get you top 12 in this league. Only one example where it didn’t under the current format. We might get a muddled Middle this year and it might take 6 wins to guarantee a spot... we’ll see.

Game on... and “Devil Take The Hindmost”

It's rough down here at bottom - glad this is the first time since we have been in CUSA that we haven't finished in 1st or 2nd place

Florida Atlantic is 1-3 in conference play after our win in El Paso tonight. Y'all better look out 'cause we're coming for that 12th seed. Game on, oatm. 03-thumbsup

You guys got a brutal schedule to start. BRUTAL. I think La Tech will right the ship a good bit after they get out of this first stretch of games.

It’s still early of course, but after last night’s UTEP and LATech losses, those two are sitting outside looking in at T-13th (1-4). I don’t think we want the west’s two largest fan bases missing the tourney! FAU is off the schneide and tied at 10th (1-3) with Charlotte and idle Rice. And new-to-the-Thread USM & UTSA both drop just under .500 (but just one game out of last) at 2-3 (T-8th)
Without mentioning names (stay at .500 or better & we don’t talk about you) it is notable that today there is one less Florida school under .500!

LATech will be fine... and if they fix a few issues can still contend to win the tournament.
Pomeroy has LATech at #5 in CUSA.

One recent precedent is Rice Baseball, which (though historically elite) found itself tied for dead last midway through last spring’s conference campaign. Still recovered to (1) make and (2) win the tourney.

La Tech will still likely finish in the 3-6 range with UAB, ODU, and Marshall. WKU and MTSU are the top 2. LT is in the next tier.

We have no offensive identity.

It didn't help that our big starter couldn't make the grades before the season and another starter quit a couple weeks ago

Heck of a week for FAU sweeping two on the road & rocketing from dead last to T-7 with FIU (who missed an opportunity to match that sweep last night but did fall @UTEP).

With that win, the Miners match those two with 2 total wins but sit percentage points back in T-9 (2-4) along with UTSA & USM.
Three schools have just one win: Rice & Charlotte (T-12) and LATech(14th).
Technically, on the tiebreaker that leaves Tech & Charlotte sitting outside the Top 12.

I’ve said this before but I’ll repeat that no one expects LATech to hang around this neighborhood long, KenPom still has them #5. FIU still ranks ahead of only Rice and Charlotte in KenPom - can they and upstart FAU hold on to newfound midpack status?
