Syracuse and Pitt were a part of that law suit and they are both in.

If the big guys all expand to 16 members then UConn and Cincy will have new homes in a P5 conference or whatever they will call themselves.

Syracuse was never part of any lawsuit in regards to realignment.

I stand corrected. It was VT as a part of that lawsuit, but was still taken by the ACC. Granted VT was forced upon the ACC, but still it shows that if the money and circumstances are right all old bad blood can be forgiven.

Actually the missing pieces for a perfect 16 team ACC football conference are Notre Dame and Penn State. However, I do not see it happening.

ACC South
Virginia
Duke
North Carolina
Wake Forest
Clemson
Georgia Tech
Florida State
South Florida

Notre Dame same deal. ACC would have 17 teams for all other sports.

Why would a fan of Louisville, which relies so heavily on the state of Florida for its recruiting base, want to elevate two Florida schools to the same level it is on? I don’t understand that thought process at all?

Also, why would Florida State and/or Miami agree to that?

The only way South Florida or Central Florida ever gets into the ACC is if another Florida school (or two) first leaves the league.

Now, that said, I do think the Big 12 should have taken those two teams last summer and I’ve been saying that for a long time. I think the I-4 twins make so much sense on so many levels for that conference and I think they’re making a mistake by passing on them. I think they are assuming those schools will still be there whenever they want them, but I’m not so sure.

The schools that I'd consider for the ACC, outside of the current 14, would be (in no particular order):

Independent: Notre Dame
B1G: Penn St, Rutgers, Maryland
XII: West Virginia, TCU
SEC: South Carolina, Kentucky, Vanderbilt

The bolded schools above are the only that I think would even consider moving to the ACC.

AAC: Connecticut, Cincinnati, Temple, East Carolina, Central Florida, South Florida, Memphis, Houston

All AAC candidates would move.

Presuming Notre Dame did not join, if the XII imploded, I could see the ACC going for West Virginia, TCU, Houston, and Cincinnati for 18. Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma St going to the SEC for 18. The B1G and PAC joining forces for a super conference.

ACC
North: Boston College, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Louisville
East: Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina St, Duke, Wake Forest
South: Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida St, Miami, TCU, Houston

SEC
West: Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech
Central: Arkansas, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi St, Alabama, Auburn
East: Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida

B1G-PAC
West: Washington, Oregon, California, UCLA, Arizona
Pacific: Washington St, Oregon St, Stanford, USC, Arizona St
Central: Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas St, Nebraska
North: Iowa, Iowa St, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois
Lakes: Northwestern, Indiana, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan St
East: Connecticut, Rutgers, Maryland, Penn St, Ohio St
*West/Pacific have cross-pod annual rivals, OSU/MICH annual, ILL/NW annual
*Cali-4 will play each other

Houston 38 Florida St 24 (Peach Bowl)

2016
@ Houston 36 Louisville 10

I have been a Houston advocate like I was Louisville . I think if the ACC did raid the AAC, SMU and Houston should be the two teams with the Dallas and Houston TV markets. Old SWC teams and neither team is hurting for money. I think that would be the right move if ND refuses once again and the B12 survives in the next CFP Contract.

Now THIS should be it's own thread, and could generate some interesting responses, in my humble opinion.

If the Big XII survives the next CFP contract (which I think is more likely than it not surviving frankly) ... and expansion bubbles up again, how would it look?

I think in this scenario you have to assume that the Big XII adds 2 to get to 12 (if they survive, it would indicate that TV money is there for the league to continue on as is, and maybe incent them to grow 2 more schools)... so the conversation would be who would the Big XII add, and then would the ACC then add schools to bolster the ACC Network.

Let's say the Big XII adds ....

Cincinnati in the east
Boise State in the west

Then what does the ACC do? Notre Dame stands pat. Who are the best adds to the ACC? Or does the ACC stand pat like ND?

ND ft ACC. Add WVU for #16.

Backups: UCONN & Cincy

Makes too much sense for it to happen.

Yeah, but the P5 and ACC fanboys, most especially the ACC fanboys, still cling to that talking point like it's some kind of special magical blanky that will make everything they say about UCONN come true.

Unless Swofford is no longer there, the vision will be towards Texas and Ohio. Unless ND wants to join and bring Navy as football only. ACC has moved to Football first and Basketball second in any future expansion. IMHO, ACC is hoping to get some B12 teams if the league dissolves in 2024. 10 years ago, I think UCONN would have been in the ACC hands down. Football is the reason UCONN is not in the ACC now and unless something drastically changes, it won't be in any time soon.

That's the 2012 excuse when the ACC took Louisville. That wasn't the case the year previous. In that instance, you trotted out that old lawsuit chestnut, then immediately doubled down on the stupid and invited the ringleaders of said lawsuit along with Syracuse.

The real reason is the UConn negatives far outweigh the positives and as the years tick on and you get further and further from the Calhoun days that gap grows larger and larger. If UConn brought anywhere near the value that their fanboys thought they would be in the ACC or another P5 conference. They don't and they aren't.

My point, which seemed to sail way over your head it might as well have been in outer space, is that the lawsuit excuse died in 2011 when the ACC invited Pitt. Full stop.

WVU will never be in the ACC because of their academics.
