Box score says 53 to 24 for an amazing +29 on the boards. That made up for the turnover situation. I gather, though, that the norm for Ohio is to force a lot of turnovers but rebound poorly. Ohio is very aggressive on defense, and the refs were letting a lot go for most of the game, which certainly didn't help.

We've been talking for a while about how the Rockets have seemed like two different teams at different points in the season. Now we got to see it all in the course of one evening. I'm not sure I've ever seen such an offensive turnaround from one half to the next - from utterly inept to unstoppable. It seemed like we were stuck on 17 points for about a day and a half.

Nice game for Santucci. We could really use some consistent scoring from Cunningham.

Dwight’s post made me think: for any refs posting here, explain something to me. I constantly see perimeter offensive players clearing away defenders with a forearm when above the three point line. It is NEVER called. People around me go nuts but I’m guessing it’s acceptable. But when Jay-Ann did it just above the foul line she was called for the offensive foul. OK, so below the 3 line is a no-no? Then an OU guard did it in the lane and no call. Is there a rule about this, because it happens a lot.

It’s a tricky call and therefore pure judgment on the official. If the contact displaces the defender then it should be called. Sometimes it appears that the offensive player pushes off but in reality the contact created little space. In order for me to call it, I have to see clear advantage from the offensive player

RE: Ohio at Toledo WBB
I was there but when I look at the box score I have a difficult time figuring out how the rockets could win by 18 points. UT had 23 turnovers and OU had 13 steals for 36 aborted offensive possessions for Toledo. OU had 10 turnovers and UT had 3 steals for 13 aborted offensive possessions for Ohio. That's a net difference of 23 favoring Ohio. the 53-24 rebound difference helps and 17 to 5 offensive rebounds is very significant but there were several missed point blank put backs by Toledo too. How does that translate to an 18 point advantage? I guess the other thing is the difference in shooting percentage of 33% for Ohio and 47% for UT. Given all that the teams had nearly the same number of shots but the higher shooting percentage for UT translated into 9 more field goals made! Bingo. Poor ball security by the rockets was offset by dominant rebounding advantage and the winning margin came from better shooting. Wow, what a comeback. Still there is a need for reducing turnovers against the next three opponents.

If OU steals the ball, that's one steal for them and one turnover for UT, no? 23 aborted offensive possessions for UT. 13 by OU steal and 10 by other means.

Bet one of us is right. Someone will tell us.

Yes, I think east is correct about how those statistics are counted.

Steals are TOs as are offensive fouls, of which we must have set some sort of record last night, many of them away from the ball. Once we stopped trying to lob in to Kayla against a backside double team we cut down the steals. Coach made some nice offensive adjustments at half time.
